Having a toss up between the Mossberg 930, mossberg935, 935 seems cheaper and the Stoeger 2000. Looking in 12 ga.

Main use will be plinking, if you can do that with a shotgun. Just an all around fun gun, but it will definately pull double duty in my bed room along side my glock.

Well I dont know if it falls into the Fun gun catagory but several months ago I bought a Benelli super black eagle II and although it was spendy I think it has been well wort it. It shoots 2 3/4'' light loads and 3 1/2'' turkey and goose loads and I cant remember the last time I missed a clay with it, ducks are another story though :uhoh: this is truely the "be all end all" shotgun for me and I am trying to off load my others because I dont shoot them anymore

Of the shotguns you have listed I would lean towards the stoger, I have heard nothing but good reviews. Also I have a remington 1100 that has been a real performer and they are probably in the same price range used.

I will second the SBE II. When it comes to auto loaders, they are the only way to go. "period" Good luck with your choice.:D

would probably choose the 930 over those three mentioned. for plinking you definatly want a gun that will shoot 2 3/4 inch shells another gun that can usually be bought for under 500 new is the remington spr453 you might check them out, but unless you think you may be using it for hunting waterfowl or maybe turkey you will probably never need 3 1/2 capability.

Friend of mine picked up a Baikal Mp-153, basically the same gun as the Remington spr453. He got it for $599
Here in Canada so its probablly cheaper where you are. It handles and points just like an 870, comes with 5 extended chokes. It wouldnt cycle the light loads at first but after breaking it in with some 3" shells and getting it adjusted properly it cycled everything no problem. Might be worth looking at.

You can definitely plink with a shotgun. As for double-duty for HD, I'd reverse the priority: Set your HD requirements for the gun, then plink with what you decide to buy.

I've never owned a Mossberg (and probably never will unless I come across a screaming bargain,) but from what I've seen and heard, they are as reliable as can be expected.

If it were me, I would choose an older Remington 1100 with choke tubes. Form and function at its best--in my opinion.

Out of the ones you list the Mossberg 930 would be the way to go, the 935 doesn't reliably handle light 2-3/4" target loads.

The New Stoegers are nice but they have more "kick" than the 930, and there are a lot of owners that love 'em and a few that don't....

You may also want to try and find the Beretta 390/3901, this would be my second choice behing the 930.... do a search, the 930 is the way to go....

just an opinion

gunbroker has various winchester 1400"s and 140"s i think for 179.00 to 200.00 "buy it now"just a few days ago.was there ever any problems with winchester auto"s.my pumps a good gun.i was thinking a tactical auto 12 would be cool, shorten the barrell to 18 inches..

Another vote for the 930 SPX, even though it is in the mid-$500 range. It has a lot of added featured that you'd wind up paying extra for otherwise.

I haven't heard a bad review of it yet, anywhere that I've looked. And mine has digested everything I've thrown at it so far.

im looking real hard at the mossberg 930 or 935.

Cant really seem to find any differences between them..........

whats the difference?

Also, If I get the 930/935, it will most likely be the "base model" cant afford the SPX. So, whats the aftermarket parts availability for the two? pistol grip stocks, mag tube extensions, sling adapters etc?

The 935 wass designed to shoot 3" & 3-1/2" loads and the barrel is over-bored to a 10GA diameter that help produce better patterns when using steel shot. Some folks have been able to get their 935's to shoot 2-3/4" shells, but I believe thay have to be 1-1/8 oz or heavier in order to get the gun to cycle reliably.

The 930 (my favorite) is designed to shoot 2-3/4" & 3" shells, I have yet to find a commercial shell that my 930 wouldn't cycle.... very easy to take down and clean, too.

If you want to use the gun for shooting targets and hunting the 930 will fit the bill better than the 935.

If all you want to use the gun for is duck or goose hunting and plan on using those 3-1/2" thumpers, then the 935 would be the gun to look at.

Mossberg sells this 930 Field / Security Combo that comes with a 28" barrel for shooting targets and hunting & an 18-1/2" barrel for when you have it in the bedroom:

All of the accesories you mentioned are available for the 930, and if the fit the 930, they'll fit the 935...

Good luck and let everybody know what you get....

I would go with a mossberg, I almost bought a stoeger m2000 at Scheels and they talked me out of it. they told me they always have them in their shop working on them.

I ended up buying a Winchester model 1300 camp defender 12G (brand new), I sold that one (not practical for my hunting needs).

A few months ago I bought a Browning BPS 12G (used but looked new) dated as beeing sold in 1997. I will never part with this gun. Best shotgun I've ever owned.

I recomend a pump over autoloaders anytime.

Sorry for the history lesson, I'm a babbling idiot.lol
