In your rush to save money buying this used gun you may have in the long run have cost yourself a great deal more than just buying a New RIA Tactical Model .

First if the new Beaver tail isn't correctly fitted it needs to be and RIA may not do it for free under warranty .

Second same with the new "Commander style hammer" if this wasn't correctly fitted to the sear you may have a dangerous weapon that can go into full auto mode on you even after the Grip Safety is fixed .

Third the front sight is staked into place rather than dovetailed which is nothing more than a slot that it fits in Staking costs more money than sliding in a dovetail even if a little fitting is needed .

The Tactical comes with larger sights that are much more user friendly and easily replaced .

I suggest you try calling Armscor and see what they'll charge to straighten it out and make it safe and replace sights if you so desire if not find a good local Smith and be ready to spend close to $200+ depending on what you want for sights .

O and be prepared to pay shipping both ways to and from Armscor $100+ .

I'm not going to ship it to armscor. I'm just going to find a local smith and have them check out the grip safety and change the sights. It doesn't have a problem with the hammer. Its the safety. It looks like its from a gun that is alot older than this gun because all of the bluing is worn off so i suspect its cut for the old GI style hammer and not the new commander hammer. I'm guessing that all i need to do is buy a new beavertail safety, install it myself, and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't fix it then its going to a smith.

well, I've got a fix to my problem. The hammer was contacting the grip safety which was enough to depress it and let the hammer fall. I talked to a guy on a diff. forum that is going to give me two diff. grip safety's and a commander hammer so that i can swap out the parts to make it work. all in all, not an expensive fix at all, it was FREE!

FoMoGo: Where did you send your frame to get that finish? How much was it?

Im thinking about getting the ria tac, but having the slide done stainless.

Good to hear. Be careful trying it out, and you might choose to go somewhere private, if at all possible, the first time out with it.
If you have to mess with the sear and/or sear spring, I would imagine that there may be a remote possibility that you could accidentally get doubling, but again, I'm not a smith.

well, the grip safety fixed my problem. I had other problems with my extractor but i tuned that and now it works well. i recently added a SS extended slide release and thumb safety as well as a stainless three hole match trigger. Soon i will be getting a FREE trijicon rear night sight and i purchased a triji front for $48. Talk about a budget gun, i only will have $100 in upgrades and it will be fully decked out!! I would recommend Rock Island Armory 1911's to anyone. after tuning the extractor i have had 0 (ZERO) problems with this gun.

ya, shooting ranges are for city slikers :p

right outside my back door works GREAT!!!:neener:

Sorry, i just had to rub it in, some people aren't as fortunate as me to live way out in the country.

i ahve a sa 1911, and i like it alot, it has 4k rds through it, other that a broken extractor, which was an easy fix, the sa has been an accurate, and reliable gun.

i also agree that you should also look into the RIA offerings of 1911's as well, for the money they are probally the best bang for your buck that you will find.
