So I ordered a Remington model 700 sps tactical in .308 last week and need to get a scope for it. I have a couple of the Leupold VXIII 6.5-20 LR scopes and love them. I'm thinking of either getting another one of these scopes, or a Leupold VXIII 4.5-14 LR, maybe with the illuminated recticle. It will be used primarily for shooting paper from 5-600 yards, but it may also replace my .338 win mag for deer hunting. I have some .22 centerfires, and then the .338 win mag which is a little bit of overkill for Michigan deer. My shots are between 50-100 yards on deer. The .338 win mag has a Vari-X II 4-12 on it that replaced the VXII 2-7 that was on it. I don't need the 4.5-6.5 more magnification at such short ranges, but it would be nice to go above the 14x to 20x. What do you suggest?
