My question is not a handloading or a reloading question but I didn't see a better place to post.

I've been reading about India's version of the Lee-Enfield, the Ishapore Model 2A/2A1. The cartridge for the rifle is the NATO 7.62mm round. Is this the same as the .308 and if so, can the .308 be fired in the 2A/2A1 rifle?

Thanks in advance.

I believe that pressures in some 308 rounds are higher than those that can be handled by some military surplus rifles, but I am sure someone who knows better than me can chime in.

Oh boy what a subject. This come up some times and it causes me to want to puke :barf:. A 308 and the 7.62 nato have the same dementions the 7.62 nato has a higher perssure rateing than 308. But some 308 rounds even exceed the nato rateing. Either way your enfield is a stout platform. I had the "jungle carbine" and shot everything I could find through it. The winchester ballistic tips worked graet even shot a deer with it. The norma light magnums did not work too well for me poor accuracey. Either way you will be fine running either in my experience.

the upper limit allowed pressure readings for .308 exceed the upper end 7.62 press. readings.but, you will find very few ,if any .308 ammo makers produce ammo in the hi end pressures.is it safe to shoot .308 in the 2A enfield,I have never seen or heard of anyone having any problems, blow ups, ruptured cases ect. from doing it.now,I have heard the "i've got a friend who's sister knew a guy, who's uncle once said he shot a 308 in his Brit gun and peeled the barrel back like a banana". I shoot .308's in mine,no problem. jwr
