I came across this high polished stainless steel Ruger Vaquero Birdshead in 45 Colt on gunbroker.

The price seems outlandish: $2348.00 as of this posting with 39 bids and 5 days left on the auction. I thought it must be special somehow so I read the auction listing...not anything that seems to justify that price, to me anyway. Just a former sales sample, part of some Ruger factory collection; box, papers, certificate of authenticity blah blah...and "unfired beyond factory testing". It looks exactly like one of mine before I swapped the grips for a set of buffalo horn. I bought mine used but in great shape for $450 about 5 years ago. It was from a gun store I stop at once in a while, which tends to sell revolvers cheap because the shop owner thinks they are not good for anything in the modern age... essentially useless. I believe "outdated" was one of the terms he used when I was chatting with him about it. I've found some gems there over the years. Anyway I bought it there, I thought it was a good deal but not that good? I like it a lot but if I thought I could sell it for $2000 It would go down the road without a second thought.
What am I missing? Or is this just a case of bidders getting carried away?
