Hello, my name is Pebcac, and I'm a swap-aholic.

I have always traded in stuff to get new stuff, rather than spend the whole chunk and keep everything. If I'd kept it all, I'd have around 20 handguns in a safe and probably be much happier gun-wise, but probably also divorced. ;)

I've had a spurt of trades lately in the search for my "perfect" handgun. I've recently gone through a couple 1911s, a Glock (loved the frame-rail "perfection"), a Sig P239 that felt like I was going to drop it, and now have a Smith 910S. All were good guns, but I either found something I didn't like about them, or they were too big to carry. I'm like a Seinfeld character - I always find something to gripe about.

So, here's the question: I've decided that I love my wife's Kahr K9, and I want one of my own. 9mm, fun to shoot, small enough to carry. I had a P9 a while back, but didn't like it as much. Should I take the trade-in beating on the S&W, or keep it and suffer? I should note that I'm not currently able to buy the Kahr outright, and wouldn't care about keeping the S&W if I had the K9.

Help me, fellow neurotics! :D

If you're worried about the beating you'll take trading the Smith, why don't you sell it and use the money to buy the Kahr?

Hello Pebcac,
I believe they have a 12 step program for people like you.:D Seriously, I understand what you're going through, I went through it myself. Fortunately, I was able to hang on to the guns I like but didn't feel were quite "perfect" for the intended carry role. I finally wound up with a S&W 640 Centennial .357 and am delighted with it, but this post isn't about me. Since you already have the advantage of handling and shooting your wife's K9 you should be able to really know if this is the gun for you. It is difficult at times to totally evaluate a gun's overall qualities and how well it will suit your needs by just handling it in a shop. If you are certain that the K9 is for you then I would go ahead and start putting some money aside for it and then dump the Smith when you can make the deal. If after doing that you decide the Kahr wasn't right either then all I can say is that you are hopeless and in need of treatment. ;) Mike
