Countrymen lend me your ears! I am in need of help! I am at a crossroads something fierce! I am torn between two handguns and I have heard great reviews on both sides. The battle is infamous.........the Glock 21 or the Springfield Xd .45(not the xdm). Please post comments because I am gonna use this thread and tally up the votes and whichever has the most votes by the tenth of january that is the pistol that will be mine! thanks so much for your time!

go XD. better looking, better grip angle, just as reliable, prob can find it in different color combos, comes with more crap, little cheaper.

i just got a glock 21 for christmas and love it. but i'm a huge glock fan. never fired an xd so i wouldn't know. glock gets my vote.

If you plan on shooting SWC, do not get the XD45 as it has known extraction problem. XDM45 has modified slide rib and don't have the problem.

I am also a Glock fan and shot the XD45 as well.

FWIW, I bought a 4.5" M&P45 and applied a trigger job and very happy with the resulting pistol.

no i have not shot them at all!! thats why i need the help. no one i know has a glock and my brother has an xd but its a 9mm so i cant really compare i know the xd 9 is very accurate and the recoil is great but i want the knock down of a .45 cause im american (no disrespect to the 9mm just a joke)

Try to see if a local gun range has them for rent. I think if you shot them both it would be easier to tell which one you like more than it would be just by letting other people vote which one they like most.

i would be weary of buying a pistol based on posts by anonymous people on an internet forum.

search for ranges around your hometown and i am sure you can find some that rent weapons for the cost of the ammo you shoot. there are 5 within 40 miles of me that offer this.

you need to at least go and handle them to see how they feel in your hand.

springfield did have a good deal going with extra mags and all but i think its over.

well i understand its a little unorthodox just goin off what yall have to say but i have not seen a comment on this forum yet that is just utterly retarded so you people know what you're talking about but no shop around the house rents them that i know of they are too stingy i suppose but thanks for the comments

Both pistols have alot of the things alike. Holding both, the XD seems a bit heavier, but the Glock feels looser. Tough call, but I would go with the XD.

I just recently went to the range with a friend and got to shoot his XD45. I was very very accurate with it and the 3 dot sights. After 50 rounds it was uncomfortable I did not like the grip angle of the XD. Funny because you hear about that about Glocks. I prefer the Glock grip angle. Other than that the XD45 was a good preformer and recoil wan't too bad. Very accurate was the XD.

^ i just shot an xd45 on tuesday and it made the webbing of my hand hurt after a mag...i cant imagine people think those are fun to shoot..

If you want grooves, graphics and a bunch of stuff you don't need on a pistol then get the XD. XDs work, Glock G21 will work better, in my experience. The Glock pistol is a simple, easy to shoot pistol, parts and excessories are more common and usually less expensive. The grip angle is there for a reason, most shooters will be able to shoot the Glock better, some don't, try both. I would be more interested in a S&W M&P45 than an XD, and rather shoot the Glock than either. Where I shoot ISPC matches, I see a lot of 1911/2011s, lots of Glocks, more and more M&Ps, few XDs, and those XDs are usually brought by new shooters, just my observation. I have shot many Glocks ( only own one) and 2 XDs ( don't own one ), to draw aim and hit multiple targets I could shoot much faster with a Glock, and had better scores. Here you will get 2 different opinions, try both, or all 3 (M&P too) then make up your mind, please yourself, get what you shoot best. For me it's IXNA on XD, I tried to like it, but cannot get past all the ugly, maybe if they put a fragrance in the plastic... smells like cookies?

My vote goes to the XD by a very slight margin. The 21 is simply too big for my hands. Now if you were comparing the XD against a 21sf I would say 'flip a coin".

my xd 45 is fire all day comfortable. weird.

anyway, to the original poster, you might as well flip a coin, or decide which one you think looks cooler, or which one feels more comfortable in your hand. you can't go wrong with either.

I like the XD better. I just dont like the feel of the trigger "safety" on the Glocks. The XD has a similar feature, but it has the same curvature as the trigger itself, so to me it doesn't feel bad like the Glock.

I like the XD better for the trigger, grip angle, and grip safety. But that's just me. As I said before, can't go wrong buying either.

Of course if you are shooting unjacketed lead SWC you shouldn't shoot those in the Glock 21 without an after market barrel.

My vote is for the XD (or for a little more get the XDM). I've shot an XD and I own an XDM and I love the way both shoot. Like was already mentioned, most people determine the difference by comfort of the grip--so try both out and go with whichever is most comfortable to you. Both are extremely good guns.

I have an XD-40 & I have shot a couple of Glocks in .40. I agree with everyone else. If at all possible rent & shoot both it might save you money in the long run. Failing that see which one feels best in your hand. Feel the trigger pull etc. Either will work it just comes down to what is best for you.

Most owners are happy with either one. I chose an FNP-45 but I just shoot hammer fired pistols better for some reason. If you can hold each pistol in the store, see if your hand falls naturally in position on one better than the other, and see how well the sights line up after you just "point" it at a target. Operate the controls (magazine release, slide release, etc. and see if they are comfortable for you. Rack the slide a couple of times on each one and see if you prefer one to the other. It's not as good as actually shooting them but it'll give you an idea of whether you prefer one set of ergonomics over another.
