I just got a m41B sniper. Perfect blue conditon and perfect tiger walnut stock with proofs, but no serial number on stock...where is it locatred? Numbers alre all matching on 1917 Gustoff. Scope and rail matching, but different from rifle. Pefect optical..perfectly bright and clear.Sight is a strage civilian version of M55 sight. Question...since this rifle appears to be arsenal reblued..is that right? There are also to drill tap holes on top of rear reciever...for no apparent reason. Is this real or a SARCO put together...I paid $1600 and the guy said it was the best they ever had in...based on codition. But is it real? Help

I got my from Sarco for around $1300. Its a 1908 gustoff. I have not found a number on my stock either. My hunch its not the orginal stock.

My reciever, bolt, scope and mount match. Some of the other parts are not matching. ALso my scope can numbers is hand written over an another number to match the scope. Did you get the scope can with that? I saw an auction where that went for 200 alone?

Not sure about the sight type on my gun. Forgot and would need to look it up. I have a picture of it on my other computer. From my book about swedish mauser's however it says this is the correct sight.

My gun has no holes drilled in the rear of the reciever.

Hope this helps

The bolt, receiver, rings, and mount numbers are supposed to match. The receiver serial number is covered up by the mount but the serial number for the receiver will also be on the barrel shank.

The rear sight should be a M55 sight, though some have a later version rear sight.

The holes in the receiver for a civillian aperture sight would concern me also- it doesn't seem likely to me that a civillian rifle would be turned in and rearsenalled to a sniper.:scrutiny:

Do you have any pictures of the rear of the bolt showing how its turned down? I've seen pictures on Sarco's site that showed a bent bolt on their M41Bs before where a real M41B's bolt handle is completely reforged.

Another thing to know about Sarco- they didn't buy their rifles from Swedish arsenals or depots, but actually went around sweden and bought up large numbers of rifles from gunshops and private owners and then imported them. That being said, I have a few really nice M96s that I bought from them 5-6 years ago.

I checked and yes i have the M55 sight.

I agree with cracked about the holes drilled, seems strange to me on a orginal sniper. Unless someone drilled later. And that the scope, mounts, bolt and reciever should all match.

The serial number for the stock, IF there is one should be inside the barrel channel area for the lower stock and inside the upper handguard.

I put a little baking flour in the numbers to make them more visible for the photo...

Does your barrel have a serial number on it? under the stock area on the chamber section?

Are there any armoer stamps on the barrel under the stock, such as a large crown and CB under it???

There are two types of bent bolts, The re-forged (heat bent that have a curve to them, and the Husky type bent bolts like the M-38s used. The Husky made bolts have the crown stamp on the underside of the bolt handle and the crown will be tipped instead of level...

Even easier yet, take a look at the serial number on the buttplate. Its pretty rare that a buttplate gets switched out, but when a stock gets replaced, the replacement buttplate usually comes with it. If the 3 digits on the buttplate match the last 3 digits on the receiver, odds are very good that the stock is original.

sounds like someone got taken

I'm pretty sure that Sarco would take returns if the customer isn't satisfied, especially on a piece that is that expensive.

edit: to add, if you consider that a M96 goes for around $300 nowadays and a scope/rings/base for a M41B goes for around $1000-1200 these days, the price isn't too terrible. In a few years when M41Bs aren't available anymore I can almost guarantee that there will be threads here about building replica M41Bs, and people will be spending more than that to build one.

Sounds like he didn't get his from Sarco. he paid about 300 more then i did when i got mine form Sarco.

Whose the Importer on the gun? Sounds like maybe someone put togther that one.

I doubt that Sarco put it together- like I said earlier, they imported a lot of swedish guns bought from civillian gunshops and collections in sweden. Once the rifle is in civillians' hands, anything goes.
Sarco prices a lot of their guns on a case by case basis as well.

Help

Guys thanks for your kind comments. The heck of is that the wood is perfect with no dents and the scope is so nice and minty....I am pretty sure the metal is a recent arsenal refinish...but the two NEW drill taps on the rear upper receiver trouble me. Who the heck would drill and tap a sniper on the rear ?

Bolt is not blue but darkened at the base with a heat mark...dont tell me they bend bolt at at SARCO

Also barrel is import marked c96 sweedish...is that normal of M41bs. I had one bought at SARCO same company and it was very original looking.

What should I do I??/ I have had it now two days...I need to jump either way:(
Thanks guys

Also forgot to tell you that since is the nicest wood and boor that hey ever offered..the price was originally 1695...I bought it from the gun rum or gun store as they call it...not the catalog...and it was described as special select. It sure is pretty, not a ding on the tiger wood...no wear on the barrel...set at O on the disk. But that commercial versiono f the M55 sight bothers me...and those damn fresh drill hole...where in the heck did that come from??

I think the scope & mount of the m41s were numbered to the receiver that they were being installed on... weren't they?

My scope can also has a hand-written number of the scope on it. It has a stamped number also, but it has been stamped over with a crossout line.

Mine's a recent Samco purchase. The receiver/bolt group mostly match, but some other parts have diff numbers. It doesn't look like it has had any recent work done to it. I have gone thru a book on swede mausers, and compared what I have to it... and it seems kosher.

I love the rifle. I am still trying to get the AJACK scope adjusted to the POI. Kind of tricky...

Here's my M-96. This may have come from a shooting club. Notice the Husky replacment bolt. It was rebuilt sometime in the last 40 years..

Nice Husky, those FSRs are very hard to come by:cool:

The bolt on a M41B is supposed to be blued. I believe that M41 bolts were int he white but when snipers were upgraded to or when M41Bs were built, the bolts were blued.

Also barrel is import marked c96 sweedish...is that normal of M41bs.
Depends on the importer.

If it were me, I'd send it back or exchange it for another one. It sounds like you have a really nice M96 with a shortrail mounted Ajack scope, but IMHO its not an M41B.

Here are two styles of bent swedish bolts. The one on the left is a M94 carbine and the one on the right is a M41B. Note also that the M41B is blued.

Ok I give up...sadly I have to box it all up again today and send it back to SARCO...I called and gave them a mouthful...this is clearly a put together bent bolt mock up. I am pissed!

Yu guys really helped me avoid a big mistake.

Does anyone know who has a REAL M41B for sale...with Scope mathed to gun?
Please!!
Thanks

has M41Bs, but they are are hit and miss also. The ones they have left will probably have a lot of stock wear but should at least be matched with the mounts, bolt, and receiver. I've only heard a few horror stories from others who bought from them, but they do have a good return policy. The chica who takes the phone orders isn't very helpful either, but you'll probably do alright ordering from them.

Thanks but I want to buy from a collector who already has checked everything out. Do you guys have any collectors I can contact???
Mark Rendina.

About the best you could do in that case is watch gunbroker or Auction Arms for M41Bs, but you'll probably pay a pretty big premium for one.

I just looked at my previous posts and had a typo I typed Sarco when i ment Samco.

I got mine from Samco about 2 months ago.

I feel that the M41 i got from them is the real deal. Except some of the parts are not matching.

paid around 1300 from them,
