At 66 I have a life time full of firearms but when it comes to air guns I dont know my elbow from chopped liver.
So here is the story
Couple years ago I bought Sears 799 made by Daisy at a yard sale for 10 bucks. The old coger selling it said it was rebuilt and I believe him cause it is tack driver deadly on squirrels, crows, and even a possum that bothers NANA'S flowers and garden
The grand daughters - 8 and 9 love to learn gun safety and hanldling before I let them shoot balloons, cans and plastc bottles. The oldest now can hit crows at 40 feet cleanly and loves it.
Enough back story, here are my questions, ( google either failed or confused me)

1 Is it a good air gun or
2 Can I do better in the 50 to 100 buck range? (So each can have their own)
3 what should I do to take care of it? (Oil, clean etc)
4 How old is it?

Thaks guys,

Doc

I remember those, never had one of my own as when they came out I was already into .22's.

As far as an answer to question 2, check out here.

Please don't take this wrong as it is what I did and I found loads of info regarding the Sears 799. Google "Sears 799". Again, please don't take this in the wrong way.

Poking around the net, I'm seeing two models that could be it. One looks like a winchester levergun (c02) and the other is an underlever pump multi stroke pump. Which one do you have?

Contact Daisy customer service they can help you.
It's easy to get bad info on oder gunss so start there

That looks a lot like an 880, which is an excellent pellet rifle from Daisy. Does yours have a metal receiver? The newer ones are plastic.

I've had several Daisy airguns and have been pleased with the accuracy out of all of them.

Bikerdoc- I've been doing some more research, and it looks like the Sears 799 is their version (gold receiver no less!) of the Daisy 880.

Here's the manual for the 880

Here's a strip down of an 880 here

Daisy still makes the 880, however these days, the receiver is plastic. Yours should be metal.

Author James House had a book called American Air Rifles and the Daisy 880 was featured there. Very accurate. You definitely have a keeper:)

If you were looking to get another low cost multi stroke pnuematic, I'd recommend looking at the Crosman 2100. They can be a bit of a pain to load, but are very durable and accurate. Wouldn't be certain of where to point you in the low end spring gun world.

Thank you Kookla, yes metal reciever. Dead nuts accurate.
Reviewed both and everything is in good shape. When it stops raining im gonna run off some more crows.
Thanks again.
