:confused:Mostly load pistol but getting set to load some Pennsylvania whitetail ammo. Looking for some feedback as to one or two powders that would work good in all 4 calibers. Those are the calibers used by us. Usually the 270 (130 grain) and 25-06 (100 grain) have been my favorite factory bullets. Have 1,000 Federal 210 primers so I am set there. Not sure on bullets but I want something that expands good but retains high % of weight. Have looked at Barnes triple shock, Nosler partion but I am not sure that's why I'm here asking for help.

4895 is probably the most flexible poweder made, and can be used from 223 to 458. It may not always be ideal, but it great for someone who wants only one powder.

I use Barnes TSX whenever possible. They are some of the most accurate hunting bullets made, and have plenty of penetration. The are not cheap however. $0.60 per bullet is not what many people want to pay, and with copper going up in price it's only going to get worse.

Here's why I use TSX. 5 shots at 100 yards, 0.221 CTC

I would say 2 powders for the 270 and 25-06, IMR or H4350 or 4831 (they will also cover you in 243. and the 30-06 as long as it is a bolt gun IMR 4064. But the 4350's will work as well in the 30-06 with heavier bullets

Thanks guys! I'm taking notes.

How about about bullets? I hear Winchester 130gr SP and Banres TSX. Any others good for whitetails

If you don't feel like spending $40 bucks to develop a load, I recommend the Speer Hot-Cor line, in your sizes should be about $15 per 100.

For bigger, tougher animals I'll use the Trophy Bonded bullet from Speer.

I don't shoot too much rifle (at least not until I get a 'black' rifle) so I don't mind spending a few bucks to get a good accurate load with good bullet. Right now I shoot a few to sight in and to put meat in the freezer!
