I bought this in 1964 for 17.00. Came with a hundred balls. I have taken it apart
Completely and there are no markings except the "PN" on the cylinder . I bought
it used. Have shot it about two hundred times. Timing is perfect, Trigger is only
A couple lbs. Shoots very well. Got it out today just looking at it. My guess, and
this is only guessing is that it is a San Marco. It is a 31 caliber 5 shot. I think
back in the 60's we called them "Baby Dragoon's" OK experts I am calling on
your help, what is it? Tell me all about it.
The scene in the cylinder is a stage coach being attacked by Indians.

If you bought it in 1864 and it was used, it's probably an ASM that has had the markings buffed off. There are indications in the picture of the right side of the frame. According to Dr Davis, ASM was the only one making pocket models in the 60s.

Technically, it is a Brass framed '49 Pocket Pocket model with a square back trigger guard. Original Model 1848 Baby Dragoons were built on a short frame, had a square back trigger guard, oval shaped bolt stops, did not have a loading lever, had no safety pins on the cylinder and no notch in the hammer. In 1850, the '49 Pocket model came out with the loading lever, safety pins, notched hammer, rectangular bolt stops, and rounded trigger guard built on a longer frame. The supposed Wells Fargo Model was a '49 Pocket Model with a '48 barrel with no loading lever.

Both models could be had with silver plated or plain brass BS/TG or blued iron BS/TG. Silver plated being the most prevalent.

Colt's made over 300,000 of these from 1848 to 1873 and would make custom versions to suit buyers orders, so the combinations and permutations of what one could get was extensive.

I had a steel frame one like that in 1967. Had a lot of fun with it.

I can't remember what happened to it. Probably traded it for something. I shot a lot of mice & rats with it and a few jackrabbits.
