I'm just starting to load 9x18 Makarov. I have loaded 45ACP, .308, 30-06 and 7-30 Waters. I purchased 93 grain, Hi-Tek coated bullets from Missouri Bullets. ... there is no published load data for 93 grain Makarov, let alone Hi-Tek coated.

I am looking for feedback/safety check on my planned approach.

I have Hodgdon Universal (not Clays) and found two published data points:
--------------------------------------------------Start Max OAL
90 grain SPR FP from Hodgdon Web-----------3.5 3.9 0.970
95 grain TMJ-RN from Speer 14th ed----------4.0 4.5 0.980

1. Extrapolated the above to 93 grain (Starting 3.8, Max 4.3)
2. For Hi-Tek coated bullets, I read that you should use data for lead bullets. Since I only have the above jacketed data, I'll use a starting load that is 90% of the extrapolated 93gr start load (works out to 3.4 grains) and work up. I'll try an OAL of 0.970 and see how that plunks in the barrel.

Sound reasonable?

When you do not have data for the specific weight bullet you can use the next highest weight. In this case a 95 grain bullet.

The coated bullet is a new animal for us in the USA. So to start I would treat it like a lead bullet (even though it is pretty close to a jacketed)

In this case use lead data. If no lead data use the half way data of a FMJ.

So for Universal the middle of the data for the 95 grain XTP on Hodgdons website.

What I would do. You can use at you own discretion.:)

I use 3.7 of Universal Clays with the Missouri 93 gr lead cast bullet. I went up to 4 gr with no pressure signs, but the 3.7 load ssemed to shoot a little better.
(lee .40 disk = 3.7, Lee .43 disk= 4.0 for me with 3 different lbs of Universal)
All cases were S+B CCI small pistol primers.
Don't have the OAL handy I will have to go measure some when it stops raining.

PM me so I don't forget and I can get it for you tomorrow.

I had good luck with the MBC bullets in 9mak.
They did not have the coated ones and I have not shot up all of the non coated I purchased yet but like the coated bullets in 9mm Luger. The coating is slick.
(Pun intended.)
