Thought I had her whipped when it came out fairly easy but I am having a devil of a time getting it back in!:banghead:

What's the trick?

I have it in about half way but it will not go all the way through.

I posted a pic of my Uberti 1862 .36 Pocket Police a few posts up, the one with the bent looking cylinder pin. To get the wedge in that gun I actually have to apply upward pressure to the tip of the barrel and downward presure on the top of the frame as I slide the wedge in. It works and it's very tight.

It's not supposed to go all the way through! Just to the point where the cylinder gap isn't too tight or too loose. Half way ( where you have it ) should be fine.
If you force that wedge through, you'll ruin the cylinder pin and probbaly damage more.

oh, maybe I'm misinterpreting this. Will the wedge come through at all on the other side? What I was pointing out is that the wedge should not go in all the way.
On my dragoon, I have to kind of do what Pohill said, thats so the little spring on the wedge clears the slot in the pin.

Will the wedge come through at all on the other side?

No it wasn't and I was thinking the top of the spring was catching on something to prevent it from clearing the other side.

I finally got it....what was happening was the wedge was going in a little crooked because I didn't have the barrel all the way down on the frame.

Once I got it flush a couple of light taps with a rubber mallet pushed it clear.

Thanks!

You figured it out.

And I was just going to recommend a rubber mallet. :)

I took a file to the slot on my 1851 cylinder post. I can now fully insert the wedge until the spring catches the other side, yet remove it without using a mallet. Its still very tight but you have to be careful.. Remove too much and you'll loosen the tolerances.

I was about to say that usually, when that happens to me, it is because I don't have the wedge going in straight. I back it out and start over.

Semper Fi!
