Any advice on removing these rivets? Most of the videos online about removing them seem to show them already removed when they start. I tried cutting just the head of the rivet off, but there wasn't enough to peen it again to get the ejector spring to stay on. So I decided to knock the rivet out, but that's been more difficult than it sounds. Are you guys having it cut it down to the ejector, or what is the best way to get it out?

Also, is there anyway to put it back in without the expensive Brownell's staking punches (which look very cheaply made considering they broke in one of the youtube videos).

Are you replacing a damaged ejector spring? Converting to magnum? Just wondering why your doing this. Receiver refinishing is usually done when replacing the ejector rivets, but careful removal/installation can minimize the damage to the finish, allowing touch up vs refinishing. Still won't look as good as a refinish.

Center punch and drill the rivet from the outside with a #40 drill bit to relieve the pressure on the rivet. Be very careful to get it centered and do not go any deeper than the thickness of the receiver wall. Then drive it out from the inside. The Brownell's punches have served me well and they stand behind their products, no questions asked.

Do you have the new parts in hand? The replacement rivet will be taller than the receiver thickness and require filing/stoning to bring flush. Pre-trim the heads off the gun to minimize the chance of marring the receiver. Leave them a bit proud if you don't plan to refinish. Be sure to check ejector box alignment with the barrel notch before final staking the rivets.

Thanks for the advice. The reason I'm doing this is that the ejector spring broke. I tried one of the tools that cut the head off of the rivet, but unfortunately after cutting it enough to get the ejector spring off, there wasn't enough left to peen it to hold the new spring on. So I'm going to need to replace the whole rivet.
