Two days ago, I took my "new" M44 to the range for the first time and was amazed with the flame that came out the muzzle and the extremely loud boom that accompanied. Because I had read posts from others that had fired their Mosin-Nagant, I had prepared myself for the recoil (and honestly did not think it was too bad), but not for the stupid amount of noise. . . I realize that it's got a 20-inch barrel and that therefore, there is going to be more noise that is closer to my ears, but in spite of the fact that I had my ear muffs on, my right ear rang for a bit afterwards. I don't want to give up on the rifle, but I've got to do something.
As a consequence of my time at the range, I now have some brass for reloading and here's my request: Does anyone have a "reduced load" receipt for the M44? Something on the order of Remington's "Managed-Recoil" series? If not a "Managed-Recoil" load, how much can I safely reduce a published load?
If you feel uncomfortable posting your own receipt, could you point me to a site that might have a reduced load?
I doubt that I'll use this for anything more than drilling holes in paper. I have a .243, .25-06, .270, and .308 for walking-around-in-the-woods, and I'm gonna need a scope on the M44 if I decide to do anything THAT serious.
Thank you.
