Hello,

Can someone give me an idea of what a fair price for my Remington 700 in .300 Win Mag would be? I don't think it is any "special" model, just an average looking hunting rifle. It's used with about 30 rounds fired through it. No real dings or scratches to speak of.

Thanks a lot,

Dan

Thank you very much. I will follow those links.

As for the info, I don't know the model (got it from my father in law) I do know it's "only a few years old" and it's a synthetic stock with a blued barrel.

Foorplate or blind magazine? It sounds like either an ADL (blind magazine) or SPS (floorplate) Both are budget guns selling new for around $350 for an ADL or $450 for the SPS. Whatever it ends up being figure 75% of whatever that model is selling for new if you sell to an individual. About 50% on trade.

Thanks, I guess that makes it an SPS. It has the floorplate. I zoomed in on some pics that seem to confirm this. It looks to sell for $709 new from GalleryofGuns. I am thinking about $600 since it'll come with 50 rounds of high quality hunting ammo, a hardcase, a ($200-ish when it was new) Bushnell scope and the world's least comfortable sling. That last part may not be a strong selling point...

Anyways, does this seem fair? If not please let me know. This is actually the first firearm I have outright tried to sell.

Elk season starts in a few days. Hopefully I can find someone looking for a package deal.

The rifle is selling here for $540.

Figure $400 for the rifle. The other accessories are harder to predict. I've had better luck selling stuff like that separately. Most folks just expect you to throw it in with the gun.

Most scopes don't hold much re-sale value. Leupolds and Zeiss will bring roughly 50%-75% of their new value, but not much else. Unless it is an upper end Bushnell figure on $25 or so. The ammo should sell to an individual for 50-75% of the price tag on the box. No one will give you the actual price you paid.

I have no idea what the case will sell for.

I've bought and sold a few over the last 40 years. Sometimes you get your asking price quickly, other times you either have to drop way below your price or wait a long time. It is hard to predict. When you get your gun in front of someone who wants it and has the money it will sell.

Location is important. A 300 or 7 mag will have to sell cheap here in Gerogia. In Western states it will bring more and sell faster. With the economy right now it is a hard time to sell hunting rifles. AR's are selling like hotcakes though.

I just noticed your location as Alaska. I understand most items cost more there. That may increase the value and ease of selling. Kowing that, your $600 price is probably fair. It might be hard to sell here in Georgia for that price.

I think you are right. I am going to start it at $550 and be willing to drop it.

I really appreciate the help. Have a great day.

Selling it above what people can get it for new is going to have people just ignore your listing, just FYI. Something like $475 is reasonable and more likely to actually get sold.

Woops. Sorry didn't realize you were including the scope. $550 is probably a good starting price.
