Good evening all,

my father bought this firearm years ago and gave it to me this past weekend. I don't know anything about it. I'll give some details and post some pictures. I would like any information as to the year, make, model (the name might correspond to some number in my limited searches), value, etc...

Thank you!

Top of frame:
Line 1 - "H&R Arms Co."
Line 2 - "WORCESTER. MASS. USA"

Left side: "DEFENDER SPECIAL"

Right side: "38 S&W. CTGE."

Front of grip (serial number) "J67XX"

It breaks open on the top and as it is rotated forward the ejector removes the old shells. As you continue to rotate it the ejector snaps back closed. The barrel seems about 2" long.

I've done a little research, but I don't know if the model is the Defender Special, or a number, like 929, etc.... I really appreciate any help you could give.

Pics in the next post.

Missed the previous link. I will check it out. Thanks fo your help.

Anyone else feel free to leave some info.

Also it appears to have adjustable rear sight. I am not certain as I don't have a small enough screw driver to in there.

Ahh, found my jeweler's tools. IF the rear sight is adjustable then it's frozen from years of not being used.

Or maybe some thread locking compound of some sort from a prior owner.

I'm sure you know those two adjusting screws fight each other, one must be loosened before the other can be tightened to move that type of sight.

BTW, that is one awesome classic H&R. Very nice find.

I don't care much about adjusting it right now. I need to have a gunsmith look at it before I even think about firing it. I am just interested in the history of it right now.

Ok, it definitely has windage adjustable rear sights. I was able to loosen both screws. I then put on some gun oil on both of the screw and the sight itself, moved it all around to distribute the oil, and tightened everything back up.

I still don't kno how to adjust the front sight, if it is in fact adjustable.

If it is adjustable, there will be a screw above the bore at the muzzle. The sight would be spring loaded and that screw above the bore will raise the sight if screwed in and lower the sight if screwed out.

Of course, that screw could be locked up tight, too.

I didn't see a screw up there, but I'll look again later tonight. Thanks.

Can anyone provide any history of that make and model?

Jim Hauff had some good ideas, but he didn't seem to know 100% about the pistol, so if you have any insight I could still use some.
