Hi all,

I just finished making a dummy round with my new Lasercast 200gr LSWC. According to the data onb the Hogdon Web site, the COL should be 1.225 with W231 Powder. I seated the bullet to that COL and it just doesn't look right! The shoulder appears to be approx level with the case mouth? Is this right?

I'm using new Winchester Brass also.

Thanks for any help provided.

I am not familiar with that particular bullet, but all the 200 Gr. SWC bullets I use I seat from to 1.260 to 1.265.:)

Thanks,

I didn't check the trim case length on my brass but they state .893".

I don't load that particular bullet either Redhat. But I DO have a Laser Cast Manual sitting in front of me and it shows a COL of 1.250" for the .45ACP when using their 200 grain SWC bullet. :)

With 200 LSWC the shoulder should be about 1/32" above the case mouth, or you will have the occaisional round catch on the barrel throat/feed ramp edge, this will mostly happen on the last or next to the last round.

Thats in a 1911, in a revolver it doesn't matter.

I load mine to 1.250-.255 depending on who made the bullet, and the batch.

COAL will depend upon the particular 200gr SWC you are loading.

Like Master Blaster says the shoulder of the bullet should be just above the case mouth. Throw the calipers back in its box and seat the bullet to that dept. Most 200gr SWC's have a slight bevel on the front edge of the bullet. I seat mine to the bottom of this bevel as shown below for best feeding in my 1911's.

200 SWC COL

This works for me. And it seems so far to work for a wide variety of bullet weights, shapes and styles.

If you have an example of .45 ACP ball that feeds reliably in your gun (I use WWB 230 gr), simply insert in your shell holder or seating station, screw your seater stem down to contact (use the side that matches bullet contour) and lock in the adjustment. Use it to seat 200 SWC, 235 pin busters, 200 RN, 255 SWC,, etc.

This technique is designed to match first feed ramp contact time in the cycle with that of the design case round.

Cheers,

Norm

That is basically how I get a starting point on a new type bullet. Tweak it from there.:)

I dial my Redding seater for .45 to 0.00 ( set for a certain O.A.L. for a favorite bullet which feeds great at that O.A.L. ) and see what it gives me with the new bullet. Tweak from there.

My Hornady seaters in 9MM and .40 have two marks on them. On almost any bullet one of the marks will work to get a good O.A.L. for feeding.

The 200 SWC is an anomaly, it is way off 0.00

Ditto.

The 200 gr. LSWC I use is based on the H&G #68 mold. 1.260" -1.265" is just about perfect in my Gold Cup.
