i have decide that i am not going college, so i have decided that i am going to join the army(which i was going to do anyways to pay for college)

but my problem is that my mom is completely against the war because a client of hers is a crippled iraq vet, my fatehr is a retired air force colnel and vietnam vet he has told me on a few occasions that he will go down and sign the papers with me when ever i want so i know that he will support what ever i decide to do. it has been a longtime goal of mine to serve in the military. i am finishing my last to semesters of high school then i am planning on staying with a friend in alaska for the summer

when i get home i plan on enlisting in the army and for my mos i would really want infantry i cant see my self working on computers or being a mechanic

i am having trouble telling my mom that i am enlisting and that there isnt anything she can do about it, its what i want to do but every time i bring up the subject all she can say is airforce, i have great respect for the airforce and every branch for that matter

how can i tell my mom that i am joining and ill be 18 so she cant stop me?

I don't know your mother, but I can pretty much guarantee that the worst thing to do would be to say "I'm going and you can't stop me." That never goes over well.

If I were in your situation, I would explain that you respect her position on the war, but that you don't agree with it. Ask her to respect your position as well, and for her support in your military service. Tell her that you understand the risks, and that they'd be easier for you to live with than to ignore the call to service.

Hopefully you can make her understand. Ultimately it does come down to do what you have to do, though.
