Help with gun cabinet's lock

I have a gun cabinet with one of the circular locks, somebody mess up with it and I found it with the notch out of alignment (see picture). What I have to do to put the two notches back into alignment again so the key could work?

You *should* be able to just use the key. No - it (obviuously) won't go all the way in the way things are. But a bit of jiggling should get the job done. The lock on my ammo locker is the same, and I've seen the same thing.

Also - it should turn easy to the point you need it to. Try just the end of a paper clip if you can't manage with the key.

Yup, the "kryptonite" lock issue you may have heard about in the news last year or so. The Bic Stic pens are the ones. Take the guts out, cut a slit in the body if necessary to slip over the center part, and wiggle around in the lock while turning. Should do it without too much trouble. Our head of security at work was a bit surprised when I showed him how I could take the cable locks off laptops in 2-5 seconds with a Bic. Several thousand locks were replaced .

If the pen trick doesn't work, You can grind the matching tab off the key. You end up with a key that can be removed with the lock in any position, but it gets it open.
