A while ago someone had a pistol re-coated with a blue/black finish that had an almost oily sheen to it. It sort of reminded me of anodized aluminum. Whatever it was it looked really sharp but I can't seem to find the thread again to see what the finish was. Any ideas?

Oh I -think- it was a CZ pistol with that polycoat removed and the mystery finish applied.

Help would be appreciated as it looked really sharp!

Without more info........??????

There are any number of "paint" type polymer finishes being offered these days.
These are sprayed on then baked, and come in just about any color you could want, including in various levels of gloss.

Possibly it was one of those, since some have a oil-like sheen.

No this definitely wasn't a paint. It looked like bluing but had a slight bit of a "prism" effect like when light shines through oil.

They said it was a ?????? finished gun but I'll be damned if I can remember what it was.

Oh wait, does "something phosphate" sound right? Is that a finish used on guns?

There is a plating shop in Florida that offers a black nickel finish that is both beautiful and durable. Sounds like that is what you saw. I'm not sure but I think the outfits name is Hunt's and the cost is around $200 and change for a handgun.
