I have my grandfather's H&R 922. A neat gun and though I know it isn't worth much, it is invaluable to me. I need some advise on the operation.

I have to remove the cylinder to unload. When removing the cylinder should I pull the hammer back to the first catch (is this half cocked?). Also what about cylinder rotation, if I need to rotate the cylinder should the hammer be at the first catch. Is there any trick to putting the cylinder back in?

When carrying loaded, should I be at the first catch and should the hammer be over an empty chamber?

Though this is a double action, it remind me of a single action and I don't want to mess anything up.

Thanks,
tjg

Do everything with the hammer back on the first catch, carry, reload, etc. No need to have an empty chamber. That first catch prevents the hammer from resting on anything. Now, if you're carrying and have already shot a round, leave the hammer resting on the spent shell.

I have one I got for $50 recently and I actually like it quite a bit. Dont drop a loaded cylinder on a hard surface!
