My father passed away last year. He was a longtime machinist, barrel maker and gunsmith. I have two lathes and two mills which is one too many of each. I lack my dad's skills so I plan to sell the larger equipment but keep the smaller lathe and the smaller mill for the future.

Unfortunately I do not know much about the equipment I plan to sell. I want to set a fair price for it but I also don't want to be taken by someone who really knows the worth. Any help would be appreciated.

1) Milling/Drilling Machine ZX5015 #0210073, Shaoxing Yuejina Machinery Manufacture Co. China. Not sure of original purchase price.

2) Bench Lathe TY-C0632, P60276, Purchased 1996, Yang Zhou Machine Tool Works. Not sure of original purchase price

3) Universal Cutter Grinder, 2813 5, WHR 09 08 03 01, Purchased in 2004 for $849.

I also have a horizontal bar stock cutter/band saw...not sure of proper name. But I don't have information on it.

In addition to the equipment my dad had a variety of collets, bits, fixtures, etc. What should I consider as part of the equipment when I sell it? Should I consider all the accessories as just that, accessories to be sold or kept on their own?

I can post pictures if that would help. What other info. do I need to properly values these items?

Thanks.

Hate to say this, but your best bet might be looking up local gunsmiths and machinest, as what you are asking is above what most here do.

And if you are looking to sell it, realize there is 3 prices (the same as guns) the NEW (what you will pay to replace it with a NEW one),

Used, what the piece someone will buy if from you
selling to a dealer, the MUCH lower price they will buy from you to try to sell it for a little more that the above.

If it were me, I'd compare what you have with what's currently offered by Grizzly and formulate a sell price based on that. I'd be surprised if they don't have an offering that's identical to each of the machines you list. For instance, the milling drilling machine looks very similar to their G3102 http://www.grizzly.com/products/Vertical-Mill/G3102. (I have one in my garage.) There are other vendors, such as WT Tool which sell similar machines too, at a lower cost than Grizzly. You might check them too. (Grizzly seems to have a good reputation for parts availability, and as such seems to get higher prices for like models.)

As for the collets, cutters, etc, if you give them away with the machines, I think you'll find you basically will be doing just that...giving them away. In other words, folks won't normally pay more for a machine with added accessories, as they may or may not use them. The exception would be that you need chuck with the lathe. If you have more than one there, I'd sell it with the cheapest one that you have. You might also consider offering the milling machine with a vise, but most don't come with them, so I would personally sell it separately.

You can estimate selling price on the accessories based on prices you find for similar stuff on Grizzly's site, as well as on eBay. Lots of Chinese milling and lathe accessories will be listed there.

Craigslist would probably be a good place to list the goodies, as well as for the machines, too.

Several of the home machinist type websites have free classified forums, too.

I'm sorry for your loss. :(
Where are you as this may effect the market for your used machine shop equipment?
Also consider the fact that some of the tooling is probably specific to the machine. Case in point the collets. Some may be able to be used on both machines but some may only fit the larger or smaller mill. The spindle specifications determine what tooling fits. Some adapters are available that change spindle taper sizes. Good advice on checking prices on ebay. You could even consider selling the tooling there and the machine in classifieds.
