I've pretty much used corn cob media the last few years and recently switched to Walnut and treated it with Flitz. So now when I take the brass out it's really dusty and I need to wipe it down. This s**ks. The walnut does a better cleaning job but when I use the corn I dont' have to wipe anything down.

Am I missing somethig? What's the secret?

Not to contradict the above post.... I use the walnut and Nu- Finish, no problems. If too much dust, put a used dryer sheet in the tumbler tub, it will collect the dust and then throw away the sheet.

Where does one buy NuFinish at? Can it ever be found at a local store? I use Tufnut, like 5lbs of it in my Dillion tumbler, and it get its decently clean, but not shiney at all... I need some help trying to get my brass to look good (yeah, i know, it doesnt need to look good)...

Nu-Finish, available in the auto section at almost any big box store, its a liquid cleaner polish for autos. Most any liquid auto cleaner polish/wax will work just fine but Nu-Finish seems to have taken hold with the reloader community most everywhere.

Good Luck

Another tip using auto cleaner polish, use spareling "sp", more is usually not the best. 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons per tumbler then don't add more till needed.

I use walnut to clean and get the junk out along with just a small touch of Nu-finish and a dryer sheet or two. Then polish with corn cob and a little Nu-finish. A friend I reload for asked if some of brass I used was new it looked so good

I've tried used dryer sheets & to me it feels like it leaves a sticky coating.
Just a paper towel torn into 3 or 4 strips works for me.

+1. Less polish is better than too much polish, which will leave spots on the cases. I also use paper tower pieces when used dryer sheets are not available.

The dryer sheet must be "used" - if new sheet is used, it will transfer the stuff unto the cases and make them sticky/gooey. :D

What about the inside of the cases? I've noticed I get greenish dust on the inside of the cases coming from untreated corncob media. Aside from just swabbing it out with a Q-tip (which takes forever!) will this impact the powder burning?

No it won't hurt anything or effect powder burn..

I tried the dryer sheet deal the other day for the first time, and could see no results atall.

What I do when my media gets dusty in pour it slowly back & forth in front of my Shop-Vac hose nozzle. Air currents will carry the fine dust away and leave the media.
(If you do it the right distance from the Shop-Vac nozzle.)

If you don't get the distance right, you will find the dust is still there.
Or all your media is in the Shop-Vac!!!

For many (many like 20+) years I used lizzard litter nekked, no additives. I got clean shiny, but not high polish gloss, brass. L.L. cleans well, doesn't get stuck in flash holes often enough to matter (I look at all my brass before reloading, don't you?) and leaves no residue. Now I use nekked corncob, mainly 'cause it was cheap and shipped to my front door. I wonder how anyone got along without high polish, mirror like brass before wobbblers and high tech media?

I use a vibratory "tumbler", will the dryer sheets work in it? I too get a lot of dust with walnut media.

Sky King,

It works for me, especially when I replace the dryer sheet strip every time I empty the vibratory tumbler. I use maybe one-fourth of a used strip with each batch of empty brass. The tumbler holds @ 300 .38 Special cases and the dryer gives me a "new used" sheet every day or two. So far, my clothes and my brass are keeping up with one another.

Welcome to the forum.

i stopped using dryer sheets and switched to 4 or 5 cotton balls instead. works much better. easier to find too!

I tried the dryer sheets, once used and once with a new sheet and the new sheet worked much better and didn't leave any oily residue. Must be the brand I'm using.
