Ok so my Mauser wasn't working, the hammer was stuck back, so I took the slide off and saw that when I squeeze the trigger, part number 18 (on the diagram linked below) was in the way and wouldn't move when I squeezed the trigger, if I lifted it up and squeezed the trigger, the hammer would come forward and it would work seemingly normal. So I kept messing with it and basically ended up breaking the tip off of part 18 in that diagram, the little hook ended nose part. I put the slide back on and the gun seems to operate normally. I havent shot it though.

I'm wondering if it's normal to be able to keep clicking the trigger and having the hammer come down and snap back up as if it were firing each time I do it. Doesn't the slide have to come back each time I shoot for it to cock the hammer back normally? Sorry I don't know much. Would it be dangerous to shoot this gun? Other than the broken part, all the springs feel fine I think and the inside is in superb condition very clean and little wear.

Thanks for any help!

Perfectly normal for the hammer to come back and "snap" every time you pull the trigger.

The Mauser HSC is a Double Action design, and that's the way it is intended to fire the first shot from a hammer down carry.

After that, it reverts to a Single-Action and the slide cocks it each shot.

As for what you broke?
Sounds like you broke the tab off the magazine safety, which rendered it inoperable.

The HSC is designed to not be able to fire with the magazine out of the gun as a safety feature.

Which might have been your problem in the first place, before you started bending on it and broke it off. I'm assuming you didn't have the magazine in the gun when you took the slide off?

Go here and order a new one.

BTW: This may sound harsh, but in the future, if you don't understand the design features or inner workings of a firearm, don't start bending on things!

Yes but even with the mag in it would fire with the hammer cocked back, is that normal as well? Would it still be safe to use this gun? The actual safety and everything still work and I hear that taking off the magazine safety is something that some people do sometimes to their semi auto pistols anway. Any truth to this?

Well, it better be normal, or you couldn't ever fire the gun at all if it won't fire with the hammer cocked.

Yes, removing a magazine safety is done sometimes.
On the otherhand, knowledgable folks expect a Mauser HSC to have a working magazine safety.

The choice is up to you.

sorry i meant it WOULDN'T fire even if the mag was in and the hammer was cocked back. I loaded it and cocked the slide back 7 times until it was empty and it locked back, it loaded the rounds into the chamber fine and seemed to be operating smoothly, just haven't shot it yet. I'm going to the range tommorow, to shoot my other guns, and I already ordered the replacement part. Should I be afraid to shoot this gun? I don't see why it could be bad to shoot it like this, is there a chance it could fire out of battery?

I can't tell you from here if it is safe or not.

I doubt it would cause any problems if in fact you broke what I think you broke.

But just to be on the safe side, start out by only loading two rounds in the mag.
Chamber the first one and shoot it, and see if the second one behaves as it should when it chambers. If that pans out, load three or four and try that.

If the gun operates normally, gofer it.
