Year looks to be 1938 and 1939. What are the other Stamped Numbers next to serial numbers? Any source for replacement grips?
Haven't got it yet but seller says lockup is good.
Let me know about it.
Any modern k frame round butt grips should work. This is probably (I'm not great with these older smiths) a model 1905? It's a Pre model 10 and would be mostly parts interchangeable with a model 10
That serial number puts it in the range for the .38 S&W British Service Revolver. A lot of these were surplussed after the war and the cylinders reamed to accept .38 special. The .38 S&W is wider at the rim than the .38 special and converted guns will bulge or crack brass.
I'd ask for a better pic of the barrel and one of the cylinder to see if there is a step in the chambers.
A Model of 1905 4th Change will be stamped .38 S&W Special CTG. A BSR will be stamped .38 S&W CTG.
A Model of 1905 is probably worth in the $300 range, a converted BSR $150 or there about.
You may be right, as many strange things happened in 1940-1941, but so far I have never seen or heard of a .38-200 pre-Victory model that had a round butt. If this one did it would truly be worth big-bucks to a collector.
