I recently had a PPK added to a deal I was making on a NiB 1963 Colt Trooper. The individual was trying to sweeten the deal that was all ready very much in my favor.

Here’s the thing, I don’t know much about the PPK line, so I need some help on insurance value. I’m not interested in selling as it goes well with a P-38 my Great Uncle “acquired” during WWII.

Here’s what I do know. The marking on the weapon is an eagle over the letter N. With the research I’ve done I believe that puts it between 1931 and 1940. On the left side is:

Waffenfabrik Walther, Zella-Mehtis (Thür)
Walthers Patent Cal 7,65 m/m

Once again what I’ve been able to find puts it pre-war. The serial number is 427505k

The weapon has seen a lot of use and was most recently a backup piece for a P.O.. It did not come with a clip.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Doug,

Welcome to the Forum!

The SN of your PPK dates it as WWII production in the late '44/early '45 range. Be advised that this is in the time period that the Germans were forced to start scrimping on their quality control and metallurgy, so it's best to have it checked before firing.

When you're looking for a replacement magazine, stipulate you want a WWII production example; postwar magazines will *not* fit.

Thanks

Steve,

Thank you for the info. I had already planned to send it to a smith for a good once over. I have done this with all my used weapons since I was in the service. I got spoiled as one of my best buddies worked in the Amory.

I’ll have to start looking around for WWII era clips… Thanks again for the Welcome and the reply.

Doug
