I thought I'd brag a little bit about my latest find.

Two weeks ago I took an out of town trip to watch my alma mater play a football game. With time to kill before the late game, I stopped into a local gun shop.

There it was in the pistol case: a pre war Walther PPK, 7.62 (32 ACP) with original one piece bakelite plastic grips with a matching bakelite finger rest on the magazine. The condition was about 70% (someone carried it, it showed some holster wear); the bore was perfect. There was a slight crack starting at the top of the middle of the grips. They wanted $250.

When I first saw it I was thinking there was something wrong with it or they didn't know what they had. They guy working the counter was a gun guy himself and knew what it was. He said "Customer sets the price."

Someone had come in and wanted to get $250 for it so they consigned it for him.

Suffice to say I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough. When I got back home I went down to my local gun shop and found another set of two piece black plastic grips and another magazine for it. I didn't want to risk cracking the original grips any further.

I can't wait to get to the range to shoot it.

Wow!!

Would love to see some pics!!!

Even at 70% for that price, you got a ridiculous steal. Seriously, I'm envious.

I have a 1938 pre war PPK and it's, honestly, one of my favorite pistols I own. They are beautiful shooters, easy recoil, nice trigger and super accurate IMO and experience.

I'm a total Walther guy but even so that's a classic gun whatever anyone says. I LOVE mine as much as you will love your new piece.

Defintely take those original grips off and put them away, they are fragile!! I put mine in the safe too and they are like yours, original with one small crack on one side but I wouldn't risk damaging them further. My PPK sports some lovely walnut grips from www.grips4u.net . You might want to check them out, I really like mine. I'm debating getting some post war brown plastics too just for fun.

Nothing like a true pre-war PPK. They are completely iconic. Congrats!! Welcome to the club!
