My remington 870 express is having problems extracting shells after firing. It happens approximately 3-5 times in one box of 25rnds. I will fire the round and attempt to pump it and the round will not budge. The only way i can get the empty shell out of the chamber is to slam the butt of the weapon on the ground while holding the forearm. I am a large guy 6'1 230 lbs with plenty of strength. Any help would be appreciated

Indeed ^

Take a cleaning rod with shotgun brush and chuck it in a drill. Use it on the chamber area. Some people wrap the brush in steel wool. I put bore cleaner paste on mine.

New 870's have two potential issues: rough chambers and factory preservative lube that gets sticky when the gun is fired.

Chamber polish solves both.

And if a good chamber cleaning/polishing doesn't fix it, try changing brands of ammo. Some barrels just flat don't like some ammo brands, especially when they get hot.

My 870's aren't real partial to the Winchester bulk pack fodder from the big box stores. They run just fine on Federal and Remington bulk pack stuff.

I'm polishing the chambers on two of 'em tonight, in fact; maybe that'll help.

I think a lot of the bulk Winchester stuff isn't quite made to standard dimensions. I've had that stuff fail to fit well in a Stevens 311 chamber (diameter was too large; damn near had to shove them in). Don't even want to know what would have happened if I tried to run it in a repeater.

Indeed. The winchester bulk stuff is famous for this. My well worn 870 digests it just fine. A newer one that I had bought and then recently sold did not though. It also didn't particularly like Brenneke slugs which was the deal breaker for me.

thanks for the help i will try it today and hopefully that will solve it.

Ditto.

My 870 does the same thing with Winchester Universal Bulk Pack.

They're junk, and they're not even cheap.

Remington Sport Loads at Wal-Mart, at a lower price AFAIK, are top-notch shells, with clean powder, great patterns, and hulls that reload many times.

Federal bulk packs shoot well, too, but are much dirtier. Nothing a bore snake won't fix; I use those, too.

You gotta quit using that cheap crap that Wally World et al sells. You know the stuff, with the aluminium or tin bases.

Stick with the brass bases.
