Not sure if this is the correct section to post this in, so feel free to move.
I have a stack on handgun safe that I only keep 2 handguns and a few extra magazines in. The ammunition in the magazines keeps getting dark green corrosion that feels like grease to the touch. The problem has been mostly with Federal HST rounds. I don't even keep the bulk ammo in the safe.
I put a metal silica packet with the blue to pink window inside to cure the problem, but It only goes about 5 days between baking before turning pink.
The safe is in an indoor closet, we keep the heat at 69* 24/7/365. Nothing else in the closet seems to have any problems. I had been keeping a leather IWB holster inside the safe but stopped that and still have problems. I was using Hoppes #9, oil, tetra gun grease, and a silicone wipe on my handguns but thinking the wet (generously oily) condition might be causing problems I switched to just Ballistol and a silicone wipe with a touch of tetra on the high friction surfaces.
I don't see any reason for the moisture problems in such a small safe in a heated room and really don't want to run a goldenrod or something for 2 handguns.
Any ideas?
