I have an SPS Varmint, and I bought a stock from an SPS Tactical thinking I could just swap them out. Well, the Varmint has a blind mag, and the Tactical stock has a big old cutout for the external mag. Is there a way to use this, or is it just my new door proper-upper?

You should be able to use the stock, you just need a couple of parts. Now someone will have to tell you what parts because I don't know.

Brownells sells ADL to BDL conversion kits for the Remington 700 as well as bottom metal kits for detachable mags.

What brand of stock? Can it be returned? If it is just a cheap factory stock I'd handle it differently than $500 McMillan. It is possible to convert from ADL to BDL as others have said.

It really depends on what you want. Adding a magazine to the stock that you got might cost you around $75, or so. There are usually a good number of them available on the used market, via Gunbroker or even ebay.

If you plan to go the detachable magazine route, I'd just get a different stock. The Hogue isn't worth the expense of a DBM.
