Well, I helped him look, he didn't buy anything yet. We went to the gunshow so we could try out every type there was. He is only 18 so he can't buy one on his own but he can own one. I guess the way that is supposed to work is that the parent buys it and gives it to him?

Well, he has pretty much decided on a auto over a revolver and he is thinking 9mm because of cost of ammo. I think that is a good idea since I am a fan of the 9mm and feel it makes a fine all around cartridge. I think 9mm is a good first pistol caliber as well since recoil is mild and he won't develope a flinch.

We tried pretty much every type of 9mm that we could get our hands on. I offered as much advice as I could without adding my bias. I wanted him to try for himself and choose what he liked even if I don't care for the gun. When he asked about quality and reliablity, I would give my opinion but I didn't try to sway him to like the guns I like.

He didn't care for the grip on any of the Glocks. After he made some comments, I told him that I thought the same thing and we didn't look at anymore Glocks. We must have similar hands because from his comments, we had the same impressions.

I showed him some of my favorites like the Beretta 92fs, Kahr K-9, and S&W 3913. He like the Beretta and the Kahr but I could tell he wasn't impressed by the 3913. I wasn't impressed by that gun either until I bought one and shot it.:D

Anyway, one of the last guns we looked at was the CZ-75. He really seemed to like it but then he picked up the CZ-75 compact and I could see he feel in love. He prefered the Compact because it was lighter and he said it fit his hand better. I don't like CZs but I was glad that he found something that he really liked. I wanted to show him the other CZs like the P-01 and the PCR but I couldn't find them.

So out of all the all the SIGs, Berettas, S&Ws, Rugers, Colts, H&Ks, Springfields, and Kahrs, he chose the CZ-75 compact.

I always recomend a .22 for first gun

If he is dead set on a 9mm for his first gun talk him into getting a cz kadet kit with it too. That is, if it works on a compact.

I see absolutely no benefit in him starting off with a 9mm over a .22 but to each their own.

A good .22 is one of the most versatile, can't live without, guns in most peoples collections.
