Hello All,

I was wondering if anyone can tell by the following pictures whether the pistol is Egyptian military surplus or not. I was asked by a fellow worker to check out a pistol that his father used to shoot and what he gave me was the one in the pictures.

After breaking it down it was obvious that it has had many many rounds through it. The locking block looks near perfect though and the slide looks good internally as well. I did find some peening on the frame in the locking block area in the center but very minor. The hammer face has a definitive recessed dimple from firing pin strikes. Barrel has the usual slide wear.

I did a field strip and also pulled off the grips but could find no stamps or manufacturer markings anywhere on the frame or slide, inside or out other than what is shown in the pics. N.A. RDGFLD. N.J. on lower front portion of the frame left side and 1C12 above the trigger left side. The slide has NO markings on either side and you can definitely see a difference in bluing color where the heat treated area would be for the locking block I believe. I'm thinking maybe someone "sanitized" the markings that were on the slide.

On the barrel there are stamped Arabic numerals. I believe it's "087". Also some parts have two dots...." . . " stamped on them like in the pics. Are these a type of proof mark?

After reading other posts on this forum I deduced it was an import from Navy Arms. Other than that I don't know.

Any help or info is greatly appreciated...! Thank you...

If you plan on shooting it, keep loads mild. NO PLUS P's! These and the original Beretta had the locking blocks crack and fail. That part is nearly impossible to find at this time.

There are better 9mm's for shooting on the cheap end. The SAR's are usually under $300 and a good CZ clone. The ones I've fired shoot great

Just my two cents.

Be Safe!

I don't really think he'll be shooting it much and I gave him the same advice...:) We had a long discussion regarding getting a modern 9mm. I have plenty of Glocks, HK's, Sigs and even a Les Baer Supertack for him to shoot to help him decide.

I just would like to determine if it's a military or commercial specimen and I'm quite curious why the slide has no markings...

Thank you for the recommendations though...

Me....I'm becoming fascinated by the war period P38's for some reason...LOL.

You've obviously figured out that it was imported by Navy Arms. Yours is a military Helwan that's been polished into submission and reblued.

These were all military pistols, private legal handgun ownership in Egypt being unknown during their production and they were never exported as a commercial product, to my best knowlage. Straight Beretta clone, licensed manufacture with Beretta cooperation, and pretty good quality. Made by MAADI, the same folks that made/make one of the nicer AK's around. Iraq built the same design, also with a license paid to Beretta.

MAADI made guns for the commercial market and exported all over the middle east and into Africa for Military and Police use.
Yours is a plain slide commercial version imported by Navy Arms.
I am a bit intrigued by the no +P comment since both Italy and the Egyptian guns were made to accomodate European 9mm loadings.
American "+P" really isn't any hotter than most standard European loaded ammunition.
Then again, from the Helwans I have handled and shot, the quality isn't quite up to par with the Italian made guns. HTH
