Henry Rollins on guns and "assault weapons"

I know, it's really, really unfortunate. I absolutely hate it. It's disgusting and disgraceful. It's too bad that the only way for us to win is to use it, but that's just how it is.

I know, sometimes in war, you have to swallow the unsavory in order to achieve the greater goal of victory. That's sacrifice and only true men worthy of the ideal can achieve it.

Didn't read the whole thread. My problem is with the label "assault weapons" as if this somehow triumphs physics. Most of the so-called "assault weapons" are less powerful than granddad's "'thuty/thuty". Sure they can pack more rounds, but not more energy at urban fighting distances..... So why demonize a sub-rifle round that's only marginally more effective than a pistol round in a similar length barrel.....

OTOH, perhaps gun owners ought to be content with the demonization of the "assault rifle" so long as its confined to its original issue military calibers, mostly so-so rounds.

Its a tough question with a "slippery slope" on every side. >MW
