Here's a question for all you California SKS owners

Just a few hole in the wall type places, It kinda sucks that everyone hates guns so much around here. Its as if the guys in the gun stores don't even like guns. Lots of people I know frown on me every time Im excited about buying new gun. I figure I'll let people have their opinions, It's easy to block out after you line up a shot and squeeze one off. It's just a bummer that I do have to put up with them in the local shops. I do like your idea about telling them how they lost a long-time customer, but if I do that to all the shops where will I even get guns? haha... maybe I'll just give them a peice of my mind.

Also, just thought some of you might like to know, this one guy said 7.62x39mm is not a good choice. He even want so far as to say its very hard to find..... If you ask me I think he was smoking crank. Only stopping when he heard the little chime the door made when I came in.

Very easy to come by. And VERY cheap, about $2 for a box of 20. Wolf makes them for that cheap too. Then you have the American companies that make um... for about $10-$12 for a box of 20.

Hey ocabj,
I am a collector, though not a SKSs. Though my collecting interests lay elsewhere, I have a nice Russian that I bought about seven or eight years ago when they were being imported for about $90.00, no background check or even sales tax (those were the days). At any rate, I was thinking about getting a shooter, but my collectors instincts told me not to get a Yugo since they are all butchered.

If the Turner's SKS does not have a cut off grenade launcher, what is that thing on the muzzle? Thanks for any information you can provide.

The ones at Turners don't have the gernade launchers on them. They are they typical 59's. The thing on the end of the barrel in the picture wasn't there when I looked at them in person. I'd imagine that's a flash supressor.

Model 59/66 (1966 on) has a grenade launcher which would have to be removed or modified for CA. The 59 Model (1959-1966) had no such launcher

DevLcL, Where are you exactly? This state has a ton of gun dealers. I would recommend you seriously stop going to those morons where ever you are going and tell them why. Look around. If you have to drive an hour to get there, so be it. There has got to be a gun dealer around that knows about guns and will be more than happy to take your money when you want to give it. If anyone who told me 7.2x39 was no good and hard to find I would know they are a poser. I guess I am just lucky where I live. I have out of the home FFL and he only charges 10% and he is on my Friends of NRA Committee. He likes guns and he likes to order guns for me. He understands that people want what they want and he just does the ordering. Everyone wins.

If you're referring to the picture of the Yugo SKS in the online/print ad, that's a picture of a butchered M59/66. I guess they didn't bother taking a new picture of a M59 for the ads. The M59 they sell is a true M59. Just a standard straight through muzzle/crown. No flash hider / muzzle brake.

ocabj is correct. In the picture, it's a cut down grenade launcher. If there is an attachment that looks like a flash hider on the Yugo SKS, it's a muzzle brake welded on in place of the removed grenade launcher. I haven't seen the butcher jobs w/o muzzle brakes at Turner's yet, only 59's and 59/66's w/ the brake.
