Good morning,

I've heard a lot of bad things about the Heritage Arms S/A .22 revolvers. Poor quality control and workmanship, unreliable functioning, and the lists go on.

A co-worker has a mint one in the box for sale, but I already have a single six that I love and have no problems with. Has anybody ever had GOOD luck with them? Should I avoid this at all costs?

Thanks for your time and cooperation. Have a great day.

I have one

I have a Birds Head 22lr/22mag combo. It's built like a tank, never had an issue w/ it. I take it on the boat, if it goes overboard, I haven't lost much.

If you do a search for Heritage or Rough Rider you will find that most folks that actually own and shoot them....love them. No they aren't built as hefty as a Single Six, but hey...they don't cost near as much either.

I've had mone for 5 years.
It's a fun gun and always goes to the range with me.
It shoots to POA and the trigger isn't half bad.
If it ever breaks I'll wait for a gun buy back and turn it i. It's not worth fixing.

But as a plinker and occasional Texas Turkey killer it works fine.

Hi guys and thanks for all the help and advice. My friend is asking $200 for it, it's like new in the box, and I might be able to talk him down to $175. I'm gonna pass on this as I already have a single six and I don't really have the need for another SA .22. I figured if he was only trying to get $100 or so out of it then it would have been an OK deal. At $200 it's approaching single six prices so I'm not gonna buy it.

Thanks again for your time and cooperation. As always, your knowledge and insight is valuable and appreciated.

I have one and I do like it. I did a little trigger job on it that really helped. Also I paid 100 bucks for mine and I believe they are 180 new. So you are doing the right thing by passing it up.

Heritage 22

Hi Sentinel89
I owned a Rough Rider for a time. Enoyed it. Bear in mind there are two versions, an alloy frame and all steel frame. Only a magnet knows for sure. Last I saw the alloy frame was generally going for $125-140 and the steel for $150-160. This only because I recently got $150 trade on my all steel version (he had made a great trade on the Savage Favorite I wanted). That is my personal experience. Shot the WMR very accurately. It is a traditional 4 click, no transfer bar type SA. Oh, I had also acquired a Single Six, Old Model, Unconverted....

$200 is high. I wouldn't pay more than $100 for a used one, exellent condition or not. New ones in my area are going for $169 in my area. I owned one a few years ago, and I truly regret selling it. It was a fun little gun. Yes, the screw holding the ejector rod housing in place needed to be tightened every now and then, but it wasn't a big deal.

The price is too high. $90-120 ok. I have had both a Ruger single six and a Heritage Rough Rider. I still have the Heritage. A good little gun in my opinion. it is a true today as it was 100-150 years ago. Everyone would like own a gun made by a top tier manufacturer, but the truth is that the other gun manufacturers outsold the top tier ones by a large margin a number of times over.

I believe $200 is high. The price is very close to what you would pay retail at a regular gun shop today. You don't buy a Rough Rider to make money; you loose money.

As long as you know it is not a quality firearm, and still want to proceed with the purchase, go for it. You'll buy better stuff later if you continue to shoot. If not the Rough Rider should do you well to shoot a a few times a year for a long time.

My father gave me his rough rider last year as a birthday present. He fired maybe 100 rounds out of and admitted that he couldn't hit a tin can within ten yards with it. I brought it home, fired about 500 rounds through it and its as accurate as can be now. I've had no problems whatsoever out of it and love it to death. If you want a cheap .22 this would be one to consider IMO.

Gave one to my Grandson two years ago gave $75 for it and gave him two boxes of Wally world bargain Remington ammo lasted about a month. There is no telling how many rounds he has put through it but it will be in the 1000's and no problem at all. Had to do that the boy can go through 500 rounds of 9mm in a afternoon can't afford that.

I have one, and I love it. Everybody who has shot it loves it! It's not the finest gun on the market, but it does what it's supposed to do. I've had mine for about five years with no problems. I did have the barrel on it replaced with a longer barrel, but that wasn't done to address any problems. I just wanted a longer barrel.

GOT ONE OF THE $99.00 Rough Riders LOVE IT

Luck enough to get one of the $99.00 pistols also got a coupon for the mag cylinder so will have $ 129.95 invested in a great little gun!

Thanks Santa!!

Heck, $149 is Academy's REGULAR price on the Rough Rider. No way would I pay $200 (even if it is from a "friend").
I started to go get one of those for $99 on Black Friday but I already have a Single 6 and ya gotta draw the line somewhere.

I have an old FIE 15 I bought real cheap and it goes bang. Didn't feel bad just taking a can of black spray paint to prettying it up either.

They are great guns... Seriously. I wouldn't pay $200 for a used one, I think I got mine new for about $145 or so.

Anyway, they are perfect plinkers and trail companions.
