Went to the Conecuh Nat. Forest range( so.alabama) saturday to shoot my new 638. The 25 yd targets were being used so I thought I would use the 50 yd. I had never shot a snub nose .38 of any description so I just wanted to get the feel of this tiny talker. After shooting 10 rds I went and checked and hit 5 times! I was amazed. I showed it to one of the other shooters there who happened to be a sniper in Nam and he was shocked I did this with a snubbie. I know there are others who can shoot better but I've never been much for pistols. This made my day!

Snubs are more accurate than folks realize.
They are just hard to shoot due to short sight radius and small grips.
The rubber boot grips which are standard on Smiths now really help make snubs easier to hit with.

I once managed to shoot a smaller group at 50 yards with a snub double-action than single-action. The DA group was about three inches while the SA groups I'd been shooting were six to 10 inches. It hasn't happened since, but I have fond memories.

I also managed to hit an empty quart oil jug at 60 yards with my old M49. (My older son owns it now). It took me more than one cylinder to get the range, but I jumped it with the seventh or eighth shot.

Mas Ayoob shot snubbies at 100 yards and wrote an article about it several years ago. He and they did pretty well at that range. One short Colt, I think it was a Detective Special, was quite impressive way out there.

Long Range Snubbies

Nice going.

I shot my 642 at an outdoor range for the first time a few weeks ago.
I stayed at 25 yards and was very impressed at how well the gun and I performed.

I am going to be the only guy at the range with a spotting scope shooting a J frame. :D

In doors I usually practice under 10 yards.

a giggle

chefman: Sir you and I thought the same.
638 will hit what you point it at.
I've messed about at 100 yds; [chefman, sir; don't laugh:)] I didn't have a spotting scope. No Bulls-eye deals
did manage to bang around the target a little
