Any idea how many of these were made? I've tried the Blue Book and it's not very clear how long the production run was.

Just looking for a rough idea of how many were made. This inquiry is for a friend; he says he has a blued 70's series that is rollmarked 'Combat Commander' in 9mm.

Thanks in advance.

I've got one, too. I don't think they were terribly rare nor terribly popular either. The 45 model was probably the most prevalent. I like mine but mostly as a curiosity as it really has no advantages over the 45, imho. It kicks almost the same and holds one or two extra cartridges.

The Combat Commander was offered in 9mm, .38 Super and .45ACP. The 9mm wasn't particularly popular because other companies offered better choices in compact pistols chambered to use the smaller round. I don't believe Colt has released any production figures broken down into caliber, but the 9mm's woud be scarce, but not rare, in comparison to .45's.

BADBS: That means my Colt's Combat Commander in 9mm Luger Caliber (sic) was the 45xx produced, according to your serial # reference.
