Greetings...I don't understand anything and it makes me crazy. Can someone please explain a couple of hundred things to me....like.

1. Why does it take SIX MONTHS to get a pistol license on Long Island? I can not understand this at all. In this day and age, shouldn't a backround check take a couple of minutes? Aren't other States able to accomplish this feat in a much SHORTER amount of time?

2. Why is it that when I get my pistol license...

A. I'm trusted to have it in my home.
B. I'm trusted to have it at the range.
C. I'm trusted to have it while hunting.
D. I'm trusted to have it while going to and from the range.
E. I'm trusted to have it while going to and from somewhere to hunt.
F. I'm trusted to have it while going to and from Police H.Q. to register it.
G. I'm trusted to have it while bringing it home from the gun store.

BUT.... I'm NOT trusted to have it while going to 7-11 at 2 a.m. to get some milk or Advil or something.

3. Why am I not allowed to defend myself from possibly being murdered? I read the paper and watch the news every day and it seems to me that bad things happen to good people all the time. It doesn't seem like it's RARE that people get raped/robbed/killed/kidnapped....etc. As a matter of fact it seems to be quite OFTEN. In the Suffolk County Pistol License Applicant Question Instructions (whew) it states....

"Proper cause for issuance (of) unrestricted carry. You must show ADDITIONAL PROPER CAUSE to qualify for this ENDORSEMENT. ADDITIONAL PROPER CAUSE is determined by a review of all relevant information bearing on your claimed need. You must show that you are exposed to EXTRAORDINARY PERSONAL DANGER, documented by proof of recurrent threats to life or safety. The MERE FACT that you reside in a high crime area does not establish proper cause for the issuance of this endorsement."

....are you kidding me?!?!?!? EXTRAordinary personal danger? As opposed to ORDINARY personal danger? Reminds me of the courtroom scene in "A Few Good Men".

Jessep- I felt that his life might be in danger once word of the letter got out.

Kaffee- GRAVE danger?

Jessep- Is there another kind?

If I were a lawyer, I would gather every victim of a violent crime and file a clase action lawsuit against the State of New York for not allowing it's citizens to properly defend themselves. This State is a joke and I can't wait to get the hell out.

Recurrent threats to life or safety?!?!?!??! WHAT?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Correct me if I'm wrong but, why should you have to wait for ONE THREAT let alone RECURRENT threats?! Might it not be too damn late to file for an ENDORSEMENT if you are recurrently having your life threatened? Isn't there a pretty good chance of someone keeping their word and taking your life? Isn't this really just a bunch of B.S. anyway? Doesn't 2a state that my RIGHT to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED?!?!?!?

You know what....I'm starting to get pissed typing this stuff. I should stop now.

It's really cool to meet all you guys. Sorry that my first post had to be a rant. Look forward to getting to know all you guys.

Later,

d9

Welcome........
I feel for ya. Since I too USED to live in NY, I can understand how you feel. I love to hunt, fish, trap...... you know all the fun outdoorsy stuff. That's why I moved from that high taxed state. Get out while you can, or you must follow their rules.

Mike

I advise you to move to either Wyoming, Alaska or Texas. In that order. Wyoming & Alaska have beautiful scenery & great gun laws but they can get VERY cold from what I hear.

Texas has deserts, mountains & hot weather if that's your kind of place. Plus in Texas you can defend your property as well as your life.:)

Trusted isn't the right word - it's tolerated.

Without getting to how the conclusion is made, guns are bad, they have to go away.

It's a little unkind to take people's guns; but less so to phase them out.

Each "legitimization" of a use of guns, or reduced barrier in obtaining and using, comes with potential of increasing, or slowing decline of, participation.

d9,

You have to come to grips with the fact that the ruling class is afraid of you.
They do not want you armed. Until Americans begin to understand that they need to carefully pick and elect those who would govern, we do have the power to do that afterall, but need the will, we will be oppressed by those who seek power for their own gain, not the common good.

One of our founders, and I hate to keep posting this all the time, when asked if they had given the people a democracy when the final draft of the Constitution was approved said, "No madam, we gave you a republic, if you can keep it."

Well, I think it's pretty apparent that we have not and are not.

We have a participatory, representative, constitutional republic. Half of the 50% of the people that vote, have forgotten that. The half that don't participate by at least voting, probably don't give a rat's behind about anything else except where they are going to buy their next 4 wheeler, boat, snowmobile or crack pipe.

The problem can be solved by taking back our public schools from the leftists and insisting that government, civics, history and love of country are once again primary subjects. Most schools insist upon 3 years of math and science, yet only one semester of the former 4, if any.

The whole problem is living in NY.

I live in CO and "don't need no stinking license" to own a handgun. It is also a shall issue state for CCW. I wonder which state has a lower crime rate (if the crimes were accurately recorded)?

d9,
Be glad you don't live in the Peoples Republik of Maryland. The rules here are even MORE oppressive, so trust me when I say I feel your pain. :fire: :cuss:

Best of luck on getting out; I'm trying to find a decent paying job in NC or somewhere else more gun-friendly, or for that matter less gun-hostile.

Don't apologize for the rant, that is what this forum is for-constructive venting/discussion of gun related topics. Yours is definately in that catagory.

I feel for you- If I lived in NY I'd be mad too but it would be freeking insane, as in my brain is gone with the wind, type mad- I'm sure there are many things to make that area attractive to some but it holds no facination for me- never been there, never going there-

D9, you live in a hive society where the workers (that's you) are expendable and interchangeable. Move to the real world - you would like it a lot more.

If I lived in NY, I'd be an outlaw. I already could be considered to own all of the guns I would ever "need," so it would just be a matter of what laws needed to be broken to live like a citizen from Free America. By my guess my "assault rifle" and all of my handguns would be illegal if not registered or some other claptrap, right?

Then again, I do not think there is anything that could draw me to living on the east coast.

Look east young man, and step across the border into Vermont.

We ain't perfect, but below are some things to consider:

1. Our gun laws are as liberal as they get. In fact, the no-permit right to carry was nicknamed after us (Vermont style carry).

2. We have a pretty good quality of life here. Not too many great paying jobs. But the pace is nice and the scenery is beautiful.

3. No change in climate from where you are now. Nothing new to get acclimated to.

4. We can always use more gun rights advocates because, despite our gun freedoms now, there are PLENTY of Socialists-Progressives here, and you never know what they are capable of doing in a few years.

You can come to Pennsyltucky. No hassles here. Living in Nassau or Suffolk is a quite bit more of a hassle than upstate. Most (please note that I did not say 'all") upstate counties are not so oppressive in their requirements for unrestricted carry.

I used to live in ny also and thats why it is full of crime if law abiding citizens were allowed to carry criminals would think twice before trying to rob or rape you.i am in GA where carry in your car with a loaded gun without a permit is legal. and it is no big deal to get a carry permit takes about 30-60 days depending on what county you live in.
Hell we even have machine guns here! never saw or read of any being used in a crime here.read some stories where armed citizend stopped robberies and just recently where a guy killed a rapist and murderer in a kidnapping and was not charged but praised.

Many will tell you to move.

I say FIX IT!
You live there for a reason, as I did. I am stationed in VA, but my HOME is in NY. I got my permit for a pistol there, and carry all the time. You are technically not supposed to carry outside of your permit's limitations, but aren't you ALWAYS going to or from a shooting range? Aren't you ALWAYS going to or from hunting? There is a lot of caselaw that will back you up if you have your permit, are not in NYC, and have to defend yourself. Carry your gun to and from the range which is wherever you want it to be. NY has a lot of gun-friendly counties, and you can be on your way back from one of them WHENEVER YOU WANT.
Then, vote for a gun-friendly representative, a gun-friendly governor. The world is run by the people who show up. So, now's the time.
When people run across the border from NY, or CA, it saddens me. It's YOUR HOME, you have the right and responsibility to fix it. What happens when we all leave our states because the gun laws suck? We would then have a Wyoming with 9 million armed citizens, and everything great about Wyoming would vanish.
Stay in your home, and do everything you can to fix it. It works, I promise you. There are more states that allow licensed carry now than ever. Twice as many as fifteen years ago. You CAN fix NY, and until then, you CAN find a way around the rules.
Good luck. I'll be helping you, and hopefully we will all be educating the 23 million NY residents in the right way to elect freedom.
Steve.

Reno beckons you

jobs everywhere, walk into gun store with cash walk out with gun in minutes...
shall issue ccw, no permit for car carry...machine guns...good looking women....college town...outdoorsy town...jobs....mountains...lakes...deserts...

I've got all of that except for the jobs and machine guns in my part of New York state. ;) Well, the whole permit for car carry is a little bit off. But yeah, there are parts of the state that are shall issue CCW.

I live in Renssalaer County, NY. Probably one of the more liberal (in the original meaning of the word) counties in the state for Pistol Licenses. If I decide to buy a new handgun during the work week, all I have to do is call the County Clerks office and give them the required information. If I do this early enough in the day, I can stop by and pick up my coupon and then go pick up my new purchase.

Not too bad for New York State.

Sincerely,

Prof. A. Wickwire

great post Grampster.

Could be worse......how about having lived in other parts of the country and possessed guns all your life, and suddenly being transferred to NY for job or family reasons......

....Out the window would go your life long prized handguns, AR15's, etc.!

You've lost nothing.....cause those smart and elitest Democrats up there won't grant you anything!

I'm surprised so many people complain about where they live......but they stay there. You can find jobs, and much cheaper living elsewhere. Visit the family, or let them visit you!

Yeah, in NY it's county-by-county. In the suburban counties around NYC, unrestricted permits are unheard of. In some of the upstate counties, they're the rule rather than the exception.

Didja vote for Hillary? She wants to make NY a totally Democratic state come the next election. I suggest you work REALLY HARD to make sure that doesn't happen!
