I have often mentioned my liking for big, heavy choppers. Some of the best of these are the Himalayan Imports kukuris, which are handmade in Nepal, and warranteed for life.

I have had as many as five of the HI kuks at a time, but my favorite has always been my 16.5" WWII model. This has a superlative blend of agility and power. This is my favorite combat knife, not to mention general all-around useful outdoors knife.

Last Friday I spent a little less than an hour chopping down small trees and brush in the rather overgrown back yard. The WW II proved to be ideal for this, as it is small enough to get into relatively tight spaces, but big enough to do real work.

Here I am, in all my hobbit glory (and, yes, I'm only three feet tall. Shaddup! ;)).

I wont mention anything about height .........
but Dude your right arm is way bigger than your left!
A severe case of Gurkha arm if I ever saw it :D

How much do those WWII's run?

New, the 16.5 runs 125$, delivered. You can usually get one with a little bit of rust or a cracked handle at substantial discount. Either is easily repaired, and still carries a lifetime warranty.

John,

Hahah...John, look at that pic again.

That's definitely the one the newspapers are gonna carry after the "incident."

"But he was always such a quiet neighbor...I never would have suspected him.

Dang, small world, unh, cantina isn't it?

I think I've got around 20 of Uncle Bill's little darlings - the one that gets the most use is an 18" sirupati (for dealing with watermelons with one stroke). But the prettiest are the Kothimoda and Yvsa special - the Yvsa is a fine piece of work and balanced to the nines.

Yeah, a 16.5" AK and a Cherokee Rose are sometime in my future...

John

I don't want to buy an HI Kuk because I'll have to buy at least five more. I've handled them an plan on owning one, but I don't know how prudent it is for me to buy six due to addiction ;)

Just get a:

BAS
16.5" WW II
15" AK
or
18" Chitlangi,

and tell yourself you'll be able to stop there. DO NOT talk to Dan Koster, DO NOT spend any time regularly on BladeForums.com's HI forum, and DO NOT surf over to HI's site.

Unless it's getting to be close to someone's birthday or Christmas...;)

John

Joe,

That's obviously Skunkabilly's garb. I see myself more in a sleeveless leather jacket with arm bands... :D

I don't know about the Cherokee Rose, but the 16.5" Ang Khola is a great chopping tool -- very solid, you'll like it a lot.

I gave Intrepid9mm an 18" AK a couple of years ago, and it feels pretty good. I figure the next size down will be perfect for heavy chopper. (Just sold my GRS.)

John

The first one I intend to buy is a 16.5" WWII model. Stop posting pics because I've been wanting one and I didn't open this thread for days. Here I am giving in and itching for an HI ;)

I had a 20" Ang Khola

Just too damn big and heavy for my noodly arms. I gave it to a hunting buddy who watched me shower our campsite with huge 2" chips from a downed alder tree. I have the British Army Service and 16.5 " WWII. The WWII feels best in my hand and gets the most work done.
