So first and foremost, I do own pistols and AR's such as Kimber, HK, Colt, LMT. All top of the line and very expensive. My buddy talked my into buying a hi point 995ts with him because it would be free shipping with two. It was $249.

Long story short, I went to the range with him and have to say that was just as fun as shooting any other gun I own. I hate to say it, but I was more accurate at 50 yards with the hi point than I am with my Colt or LMT AR's.

At 35 yards I put all 10 round through the same hole. Never done that before!

Anyway, I know hi point get's a bad rap, but so far highly worth the $250 spent.

Hi Points actually have a very good reputation, just not for being pretty or trim. Functionally I haven't ever heard of someone having a problem with one, and they have an unbelievable customer service policy, pretty sure it is to fix or replace any of their guns, no questions asked, at any time, regardless of who bought the gun and who owns it now.

Congratulations on finding a fun and inexpensive new gun, which caliber did you get?

I bought one not to long ago and have fired about 500 rounds through it with only one ftf and im sure it was the ammo (reloads) its been a fun little gun, and ya i own more expensive guns too.Good luck with your new Hi point.

I too am in love with my High point carbine 9mm. Mine is an early 995 and had some problems. I bought it used and there was a melted spot on recoil pad and was very hard to cock.
I called High Point and all they said is send it life time Guarantee. The gun came back completely rebuilt with new barrel and a nice crisp trigger. They sent a new magazine to payback my shipping charge. That is service and fast.
I got a ATI replacement stock and did a two tone olive/black Krylon Fusion paint job, and an old Tasco Propoint red dot I had. I had to make a longer cocking handle to clear Propoint battery cylinder.
I think I've said it before but if the police had had some 995 carbines those Hollywood bank robbers wouldn't have made it off parking lot. I can hit animal crackers at 50 yds with monotany and graham crackers at 100 yrds everytime.(I like biodegradable targets and so do the birds)
++1 for High Point

The trigger wasn't the greatest thing I've ever felt, but good enough to be very consistent. Not sure if there are after market triggers for the high point or not, but worth looking into.

I'm sure he meant "wasn't the greatest", . . . . which is true, but they are perfectly fine. I have the TS stock on my 995. I love it, . . . moreso than the original and moreso than the ATI stock I once had on it. I may post a picture of mine, at some point, . . . but it was a great buy when I was able to get that TS stock. It feels much better and more solid than the original.

Congrats on that wonderful rifle! :)

I have a HP .40 carbine, which is a tremendous hoot! My grandson liked it so much he shot up all my ammo, so I had to buy him his own 9mm carbine to keep him away from my .40. I put cheap BSA red-dots from WalMart on them and they're among the best plinkers I have.

Yes, I said in another thread that I think hi points are the most under rated guns on the market.

I agree though, 10 round mags is a bummer. I love my 995TS, great fun gun and very reliable.

Good luck with your new gun and have fun!!

Hi Points actually have a very good reputation...
Among folks that have owned or shot them. I'd say that most of the "hi-points suck" posts are from guys turning their nose up, and a few from tinkerers that tried to "make it better."

I dont own one, but have shot several. I really dont see the point in getting one since I have a 9mm carbine that's just as ugly (RRA 9mm that's seen a lot of use and abuse), so the only one that has any real appeal to me is the .45 that I'm starting to think is never going to be released. But, if they do come out before I get my .45 upper for the AR, I'll probably pick one up. My thompson is a little too pretty to be a range beater....

I had a 995 for a couple years and it was AK reliable and AK accurate out to 75yards. For the money you can't beat the HI-POINT and like others have said a warranty program that is lifetime unconditional even if you purchase used. Keeps the resale values up and people buying more of what at first appears to be a questionable product. The Carbine is somewhat "Tacky-Cool" in my book but it did do just what it was suppose to do every time I took it out.
