About a month ago I picked up a Hi-Point pistol. I had heard a lot about them both hot and cold, and I had not really considered them as an option. However, I was in the gun shop, and just had to take the opportunity to try it out. I liked the heft of the slide for some reason, and the price was right, so I picked it up.
In my four or five trips to the range with it since then, I have fired about 500 rounds of ammo through it. Obviously my experiences with it are just that, my experiences and are in no way scientific.
I had trouble finding a comfortable grip at first. It seemed my hands were just too big for the gun; after some trial and error, I found a position that seemed natural to me.
The trigger isn't the greatest. I always felt like the first round was the worst. This might be just me though. The pull seems long compared to other similar guns.
Accuracy? Well, with a pistol, I'm kinda like Jack Elam in Rio Lobo. "Don't mind if I shoot do you? It makes me feel better." I can keep 'em on the plastic dinner plate at 15 yards; don't ask for much else one, reason for all the range time. Practice.
Ugly? I'll leave that to the individual, I'm kind of ambivalent about its looks.
I guess the thing that impressed me the most was that it has never failed to cycle a round. No matter what ammo, (all production no reloads) I've never had a round that didn't cycle & fire. I was expecting at least some feed issues with a new auto loader. This may stand out in my mind because my also new Ruger Mark III seems to be extremely picky about ammo. My CZ P01 hasn't made it through the same number of rounds without giving up the ghost (This isn't a swipe at CZ just my experience).
I think I'll reserve judgment until I reach the 1000 round mark, but so far, I'm liking it.
Just my 2 cents.
