Was thinking about getting one for plinking and there pretty cheap. Want to get one in 45 acp but only have seen them in 9mm at the local shops. For a just for fun gun, what are some overall opinions of this carbine? I know they are cheap.

I believe one of the mods here ran a hi-point in a gun match and I believe the only hold-up was the magazine capacity.

whats not to like?

lifetime no-questions-asked warranty

lightweight

reliable.

note on the one in 45 acp. I've seen modded single stack 1911 magazines work in the gun without destroying the compatibility to the 1911.

I shoot my 995 side-by-side with my buddy and his Beretta CX4. Other than mag capacity, not a lick of difference....except for about $400.

Got me a .45 ACP Hipoint a couple months ago and it is accurate and fun to shoot.
I put an inexpensive Red Dot on it and it looks badazz.

I've got a 9mm that I use as a truck gun, no failure to feed or fire with anything that I've put thru it yet. Trigger pull is a bit tough but its accurate enough for what I need and I don't worry much about a scratch or ding. My frields kids think its great and love to shoot it.

The guns work well enough and easily shoot minute of felon. Magazine capacity is the main drawback, in 9mm I would find a gunsmith with good welding skills to make me up a couple of drums using the excellent 71 round Suomi drums as the base magazine. Something like this...

In 45 you are pretty much hosed unless you can first find then are will to pay for a Taylor Mk 1 28 round drum... (mine's not for sale!)

I've owned a 40cal about 5 years overall fun and accurate, mostly use a red dot at 50yards but recently installed a 4x12 scope and achieved decent groups at 100 yards to my surprise but as stated larger capacity mags would be a plus.

While the Hi-Point carbine may be inexpensive, "plinking" with .45 ACP will not be. Why not step up to a Mini-14 or something? What you save on ammo will more than pay for the price difference between the two rifles.

.45acp isn't that much more per round to shoot than .223 and commercial reloads are even cheaper in .45, also 45 is much easier to reload yourself.

I have a HP 4095 carbine in .40 S&W, and bought my grandson a 995 carbine in 9mm. We love them both, they're outstanding plinkers and with cheap BSA red-dots are more fun than you can imagine. Accurate and reliable, I wouldn't hestitate to use either one for home defense. Yes, larger mags would increase the fun factor, but I certainly wouldn't consider that a dealbreaker. For the price, warranty, and fun, you can't go wrong with 'em. I highly recommend them. No experience with HP handguns or the .45 carbines though.

I bought 2 last year for me and my wife. They are both in .40. Never had the first issue with either one of them. We love to shoot them. It's a ton of fun for the price and .40 ammo's not too high either. We'll probably get them out tomorrow. Our range has a pistol side and a rifle range. If the rifle range is busy, we can take our .40 carbines to the pistol side, so it gives us more shooting options. all in all, what a great ugly little gun.

My Brother just picked up a 45 carbine, and we had a blast shooting it today. We didn't have the screws to attach the rear sight, so we just looked through the front sight while maintaining a good cheek weld, and made some good hits at 50yrds shooting a small steel ram target. Thing ran like a watch:)

Have mine in 9mm. Love it. It eats anything I put down the pipe from cheap steel case to JHP. For the price, they can't be beat.
As many have mentioned, the only drawback is the mag capacity. The 15 round promags don't seem to cut it, lots of jamming. I personally don't have the promags, but I'm still planning on getting one or two, just to try.

As I have the .45JHP pistol on order, I may pick up a .45 carbine, too. Of course, then I'd have to get a Hi-Point C9 pistol as well. Gotta have matching sets.

I have a few of the ProMags for my 995. Needed some reshaping to get them into my ATI stock, and a bit of lip squeezing to get them to feed reliably. They've worked fine for at least a year...at this point.

Hi Point Carbine

I got a Hi Point 9mm a few months ago so I could determine for myself how good a gun this is. After 400 rounds I have had no misfires, no feed problems, no ejection problems, no problems of any kind.l It's a great gun. I have a red dot on mine which I like. I clean the barrel and chamber, feed ramp and firing pin area about every 150 or so rounds. I love the gun.

Be careful with the Pro Mag magazines with the newer carbines that have the last round hold open feature. The magazine followers are not the same shape as the factory followers. Instead of the LRHO being activated when the magazine is empty, the bolt is held open by the back of the follower, which has led to cracks in the frame. Hi Point has stated this will void your warranty, but I don't know if they have not honored their warranty because of this or how many times this has happened. It's a topic of conversation on the Hi Point forum. http://www.hipointfirearmsforums.com/Forum/index.php/topic,40155.0.html To check this if you have a newer 995TS, pull the empty Pro Mag magazine after the slide has been held open after the last shot. If the bolt shuts, the follower was holding the slide open, not the LRHO.

I picked up a Pro Mag when I bought my 995TS at Cabelas. Before I shot the gun, I found that thread. Took it back and got my money back. I'll wait until someone else or Hi Point makes a better designed higher capacity magazine.

Great little carbine but limited magazine options and pretty ugly.

I prefer my sub 2000 folds to 16" and takes glock magazines. I hear people talking about how much cheaper the 995's are but where I am they are going for 300 all day long.

GLAD TO HEAR ALL THE GOOD POINTS

as i have one in the mail that is suppose to be here this week.

will see how it is to my camp 9

I bought a .45acp model last winter. The other pistol caliber carbine rifles on the market were too expensive for what I think of as a range blaster. Mine was $260 and for that I figured I could take a chance. I am pleasantly surprised. The rifle is much more substantial than the price would indicate. It's reliable and fun to shoot, cheap too if you choose the 9mm. I would go so far as to recommend it to someone for a HD weapon if funds are limited. Cabelas has the 9mm for $209 on sale now and then.

By the way I think of something as "cheap" when it costs very little and has a short life span or works so poorly that you hate to make use of it. I could not put my 4595 carbine in that category. jm.02

Mine went back to the factory four times after various parts broke off.

I had shipping down to a science though. Get one of those triangular USPS boxes, turn it inside out and ship it via UPS for ~$16.
