I have a problem with the cocobolo wood grips on my Hi Power. When I put them on the gun I can't press the magazine release because the grips prevent the button from protruding on the other side of the grip. Anyone else have this problem?

No, but who made your grips?
My grips have a little rounded notch on the right grip to allow for the magazine release.

I don't know who made them. I got them from CDNN. A lot of people here ordered them with their Hi Powers.

They look just like these: fnwilsonblack.gif

I had a simliar problem. The "ridge" on the grips kept me from reaching the mag release with my right thumb. I had to change my hand position on the gun to get the right leverage to drop the mag. I played with the grips for about 10 minutes and then took them off and sent them back. They look great, but weren't practical.

My advice: Send them back and get your money back. There are better grips out there. I go with function over appearnce, every time.

You may have to alter them or send them back.

Hi there,

I haven't bought a set of those, but at this point:

1. Send them back with a note explaining that the right grip panel is not relieved for the magazine safety.

2. Get a hold of a dremel with a drum sander and relieve them yourself using the old grip as a stencil.

I can only guess that the manufacturer allowed one grip panel to go though without cutting the magazine relief notch in the RH grip panel.

The grips are OK. I mean I can hit the magazine release and everything. It's just that the right grip isn't shaped correctly and it blocks the magazine release button on the other side of the gun. The left grip is fine.

I'll just ask them to send me a new one. They forgot to send one of the extra magazines I ordered anyway.

So, you are going to go through all of the hassle and time to send the grips back for replacements when it would take you 30 seconds with a half-round needle file to fix the problem? I'm afraid I don't get it. I expect to have to fit grips to my Hi-Power. They have been made for so long, and in so many variations, that not every grip is going to fit every gun. I spent 30 minutes last night fitting a set of $86 Spegal grips to my Hi-Power and was glad to do it. I guess it fits into the "pride of ownership" category. But, then again, having worked in several gunshops, I never understood how people would pay us to clean their guns and sight them in for them, either....:scrutiny:

I don't think it could be fixed by filing it down. That part isn't shaped correctly.

Never had a problem with my pair of Cocobolo grips from CDDN. Just checked them and the grip on the right side clears the mag release, but just barely. You might try loosening the grip screw, see if you can shift the grip towards the rear, and tighten it back down. Might buy you the clearance you need.

I have two Hi Powers with two sets of the CDNN grips. No problems with fit at all. What year and model of Hi Power are you trying to fit them on? All Hi Power grips are not created equal. The MK I, MK II and MK III grips are all a little different as are the ones for the Inglis Hi Powers.
