hi power vs poly

Depends. BHP's are a little heavier.

I use BHP's in .40 S&W for my carry guns, a Practical and two standard MKIII's and they are fine combat weapons. I see slightly used standard models for around $400 here in Houston, Gander Mountain has new Practicals for $599.

I have two polymer frame pistols, a EAA Witness PS and a fairly new Springfield XD9 Tactical. The Witness is my bedside gun and the XD9 is being used for IDPA. Witness had a better trigger, XD9 has better sights. Actually I should say the XD9 trigger is just different, just took a few weeks to get used to. The Witness is about 8-9 years old and has never had a problem of any sort, probably be time to change some springs out soon though. The XD9 has been a good pistol so far, reasonable accuracy, good ergonomics for me, and smooth shooting with the 5" barrell.

I used to carry a .40 BHP all the time, but it's just so heavy. My Glock 19 is half the weight, literally. Much more comfortable to keep on my belt all day.

I honestly wish they made a polymer frame for the BHP, one that would take real double-stack mags instead of the almost-double stack mags they used in the .40 to avoid making the grip any bigger.

They DO have Polymer Hi-Powers in Europe.

If anybody can post a link to a site showing these, or a pic here, it would be appreciated. I am just interesting in learning more on these.

Did you mean, just maybe, the currently produced FN9 and FN40 series? These are nice pistols and I'm tempted by them. Traditional DA/SA with a real hammer, in a poly-pistol.

I'm also seriously thinking about one of those. I'd want the SA only version though. I'm a single action kinda guy. The glock is great, but the trigger leaves something to be desired. I love the Hi-Power, but the weight is just too much for me for every day.

I dunno? I have Hi Powers, the 9mm versions are only 4 ounces heavier than my Springfield XD-40 service model. Load up 12 rounds of 40 S&W in the XD and I can't tell any difference in it and my 9mm, 13 round, loaded, Hi-Power when on my hip. The Hi Power sure is easier to carry inside the waistband though, due to the slim slide. I love both firearms though!

The FNP and/or Browning Pro sure have my eye. Especially the SAO version.

 That thing is a HP in name only!
If you're on a strict budget, go w/ a used Glock. If you're looking for a nice gun to add to your collection, go w/ the BHP!
