serial number 306xxx has flat barrel sides and target sights. it is marked the same as other h-d military pistols. I am seeking information on this variation.
its sights are not the same as most other h-d military marked units and it is a new haven gun.

If you want to stick here, can you post pictures? AFAIK, all HD Militaries had target adjustable sights.

306,xxx would probably be 1949 production but without the serial number it is not possible to be sure.

Aftermarket sights were common on Model H-D Militarys used in competition. King and Micro are the most common. It would be possible to install the later Davis rear sight made by High Standard and used on later designs. All of these brands typically marked their sights.

Slab sided barrels are a sign that the shooter wanted a lighter barrel and a different balance. It is not a factory option or modification.

Marked New Haven but the pistol plant at that time was in East Haven.
