Greetings,

I'm a long time reader of THR, and seldom post. For the past 6-8 months I've been researching precision rifles and have learned a lot, here and other places on the net.

I'm getting ready to make a purchase and one of the problems I have is that I live in a small town and don't know anybody who is in to long range precision shooting.

After reading numerous posts by Zak, and learning that he is waaaaayyy into long range shooting, checking out his web page and reading it in its entirety, I sent Zak an email asking if I could call him and shoot the sh*t for a few minutes.

He and I talked today and he was able to clear up a number of issues, and make my next purchase an easy one.

Here's to Zak, and the rest of you for sharing your knowledge.

Now....does anybody have an Accuracy International AE in 308 they want to sell?

Thanks,

Bob

If you don't mind me asking, what made you decide on that particular rifle? (Good luck in your search!)

Well....I'll tell you what made me choose them. First off one of the biggest deciding factors was that with the proper tools I can change out the barrel on my own in my basement without sending it off to a company / gunsmith somewhere else. Second it's modular, from the trigger to the chassis to the stock you can change almost anything on your own, again without sending it off. Third the AI's have unbelieveable cold bore accuracy because of the quality of the barrels and the chassis system. I have routinely made 700+ yard cold bore shots with the AI AE with off the shelf ammo. I liked it so much I sold my M21 tactical and TRG42 and bought another AI. Second time around I ended up getting the AWP (again in .308)with the 2.0 stock, however accuracy is almost identical and the only benefit is the 10rd magazines and the folding stock if that truly is a benefit. The only disadvantage of the AWP is that the 10rd mags heat up the bbl quicker. Accuracy dosen't change whatsoever, but common sense would tell you not to get it too hot. After all the thing is really expensive although worth it.

My advice is get the AI AE......it's the best for the money.

If you have any other questions on these things I'd do my best to help!

I have smoked my 308 AWP barrel and it shoots fine.. 5000+ rounds down that pipe and it shoots same hole.

Also, is it really true you can user-switch the AE barrel?

The other difference with the AW vs. AE is that the AE does not have the AI receiver dovetail, just a pic rail.

Yes, barrels are totally interchageable between AE / AW. Same threads, same torque specs, same everything. Different bolt & reciever. But same exact accuracy, smoothness in the action and reliability throughout.

Zak is top gun for sure!

It was on another forum (USN;) ) BUT ZaK was a big help to I when making my .50BMG decision as well. Thanks you sir:D Im here if you ever need me!

Evidently, Zak really is a pretty good guy: my buddy Rockstar.esq apparently ran into him on the range one day and did a little shooting with him. He had nothing but good things to say about Zak, which makes sense. He is from Money magazines #1 place to live!

I'll second (or whatever) the kudos. I've had some questions on some things that he's posted on this forum and/or others and have e-mailed him and always gotten polite, concise and informative answers promptly.
