Hey,
I'd like to pick up a high magnification scope for an AR-15 target rifle. I was looking at the Leupold Mark AR 6-18x but would love to hear some other options. Not too pricy, please! Thanks

Vortex Viper HS has the 4-16x44 and 4-16x50 are good options, well within your price range. I'm continuing the Vortex suggestions based on very positive experience with their glass. The Leupold you mentioned is a good scope as well.

Yeah, I've heard very good things about vortex. Almost bought one of their PST rifle scopes for my AK a while back, but settled on a Leatherwood CMR.

Hard to go wrong with a Leupold scope. And they stand behind what they sell with the best service in the industry.

Fwiw, I've got a brand new Swift Premier #SRP Mil 687 4.5-14x44mm for sale down here in the classified section that I just listed if you're interested. $247.00 shipped.....:D

Its a nice scope, but a bit over-budget. Looking for something around $500 or so. Thats why I liked the Leupold so much.
Take a look at the Vortex Viper 6.5-20X50 PA. This scope has a wide v-plex reticle, side focus, 30mm tube, zero re-set knobs and a life time warranty. You should be able to find these on sale for under $400. Similar to the PST without the super cool turrets and it uses a pain reticle the keep price down. Made on the same line as the PST's.

I got mine at Midway for $350, put it on my Grendel, it's a fine scope for long range work. It's no Nightforce but it gets it done.

Yep, see Jonn53 post #10. That is exactly what I did - Nikon 6-18 40MM. It has parralux adjustment and good field of view. I paid $300 at Bass Pro Shop online. I also purchased the Nikon 223 20 MOA scope mount too. Oh, its mounted on my LR308 with a 20" barrel.
