Have you ever owned a High Standard Double-Nine Deluxe (with .22 mag cylinder) or a Sentinel MK IV with adjustable sights? Would you buy another one? Why or why not? What did you like about it and not like about it?

I've looked at several of them, but never owned one. I'm a big fan of High Standard's semi-automatic .22 caliber pistols—just bought another this past week, in fact, and am haggling with a gun shop owner over another—but High Standard revolvers generally weren't success stories.

I believe the company tried to be too many things to too many people, and ended up losing its soul in the process. If it had contented itself with selling a few high quality guns, it might still be in business today, but it tried to do that and become a mass market supplier, and went bankrupt in 1984.

A few of the .22 caliber revolvers are or may become collectible, as are the much larger .45 Long Colt and .44 magnum Crusader revolvers, of which very few were ever made. Most of the High Standard revolvers were low budget items when new, and a great many on the market today weren't at all well cared for.

It might be worth your while to hang out at Jim Spacek's site: http://www.tm-techmark.com/jspacek.htm

I have had both. IF I could find well cared for specimens, I would buy both again. There was a 22 single shot SAA style single action that I really liked.

Had one once- returned it because I couldn"t eject the fired cases at all. Big problem with all 9-shot .22s, from what I hear, but really a big one on this gun. Also had a "roller coaster" trigger pull- pulled hard to a peak and then resistance dropped suddenly, which made it really hard to shoot accurately. One of the few guns I'm glad to be rid of.

A High Standard Double-nine (without the .22 mag cylinder) was my first handgun. I kept it for thirty years. It always worked great and shot great. Should never have sold it.
