High Standard Sentinel Revolver R-100 Hand Spring

Hi,
I have a High Standard Sentinel Revolver model R-100. When I did a take down and reassembly, I damaged the hand spring (when driving out my poorly fashioned slave pin, I have made a much better slave pin now! Those that have taken these apart will know what I am talking about).

Anyhow, the replacement I got from were not correct, turns out the R-100 series uses a different part number,7139, Hand Spring than all the subsequent R-101, 102, 103, ect, series.


Since Armatt did not have these he sent me to a former High Standard employee, who is 87 years old. He thought he had one and I sent a check out to him October 12th, but have not heard back. I am going to try to keep working this angle, but he can be hard to get a hold of.

I tried Numrich and they list the part number as 854930 (I called and it is high standard's 7139) but they are out.

I have attached a picture of the correct hand spring that I found. It is significantly different than the 101, 102, and later versions.



So I am on the lookout for this spring to get the revolver operational. I have not even shot it yet! Ugh.

Let me know if you hear or see of this part! I am looking to pay a reasonable price shipped.

Check your local big box store for spring wire and make one. Just wrap it around a punch. You will find other uses for the leftover wire.

Yes, I thought about making one. I just don't know what type of wire. I can measure a diameter of .025", but I attempted to rebend the old one and mangled the shape pretty bad. The spring material is really stiff.

I don't know the exact length the longer portion should be, but I suppose if I can understand how it mates with the hand, I might be able to get it really close. What material do they make these out of?

Does a Lowes or Home Depot carry this type of wire???

I know HD does, not sure about Lowes. Strength is not really critical in that part, just so it functions the hand all the time and isn't so strong it causes the hand to score the ratchet. If you get the right diameter, you should be OK. As to length, you do the loop first, then use a diagonal cutter (I am afraid to use the term "dikes" for fear of insulting somebody) to cut the ends. If you goof, the spring wire comes in two or three foot lengths for a buck or so, so you have a lot to play with.

Forget Home Depot.
Go to a hobby shop that specializes in R/C aircraft and the like.

They will have K&S music wire spring stock assortments that will make your head swim.

Take a look at EWKarms
The designer of DW revolvers was a designer for high standard and colts 44 mag and the part looks alot like a trigger return spring used in the small frame DW revolvers. If not the ewk can help you out.

RC beat me too the hobby shot suggestion. You'll find a 3 foot length for about a buck or less. And .025 is one of the available wires for sure.

You'll want to make up a jig for bending the coil. Allow for some spring back by using a fairly loose pin to wind the wire around. You can make a nice jig by just driving two finish nails into a block of a dense hardwood scrap or a scrap of birch plywood. Drive one in and cut it off and file the end down flat but so it sticks up the same amount as the thickness of the wire. Then drive a second nail in about an 1/8 inch away. Hook the wire between the two pins and bend the coil around the taller nail. Adjust as needed to get the right angle and coil size.

Springs came in yesterday from the old gentleman who worked for Hi Standard! I installed springs and everything works now. Patience is a virtue. Thanks for the tips on making springs...THR rocks!
